For the record when I want to treat myself I make a roll. Might be simple but it hits all the right spots.

Pro-tip - This actually works really well for esky's, used to make big blocks of ice in ice cream containers. Put them in the bottom of the esky, bit of bagged ice on top. Lasts for ages.

I've heard of the salt trick when I was doing a lot of camping. Have upgraded to a decent camping fridge now though

The ice coming out of your freezer is -18 to -20c. Hence the little bit of water and only a little bit of salt. It will create a ton bit of slush but also make the actual ice itself stay colder for longer. Lots of salt and it just defrosts everything.
