In my opinion, Mark Alvey has been more than serviceable lately.
Yesterday, I thought he was very good.
17 disposals in 81 minutes.
He's quick and we all know he can use it.

His future at Essendon is getting brighter by the days.

I agree looked to be only wasting a space on the list a few weeks ago now has been getting lots better. His skills are good, he should be played the same way as murphy. Maybe it has just taken him a while to get confidence after his knee and know he has gotten it back he is showing what he can do.

His increasingly better form has gone hand in hand with the extra game time.

Yesterday was his best game for the club and that brings confidence.
He is valuable part of our rotations now, he finds space and with each week has used the ball better and better.

its amazing what a bit of game time can do for a players confidence. Hopefully we can do that with some others who dont get enough of a go!!

Yes he was good yesterday and his disposal was heaps better. I have given him and his supports heaps but i am only too happy to be proven wrong :D
Hope he keeps up the good work. :)

Love Mark Alvey! Glad to see him given a real opportunity to cement himself in the team. He'll repay the faith shown in him. He'll be a excellent player for us.

good game on the weekend.
must admit I was absolutely wrapped when we got him, but have spent time this year scratching my head about him.

I figured his quiet one last year was due to his reco, but until last week he'd not done much for the seniors IMO.

keep up the good work little fella.
:)

Alvey, Stants, Lovett and NLM have really added to our team in recent weeks with their run.

The dogs are probably the quickest side in the AFL but i can't recall at any time during the game thinking we were being shown up for pace.

When I heard Alvey was coming to the club in 2003, I was fairly excited because I saw and heard good things of him, and he totally proved me wrong up until the last couple of weeks, :).

So we need another murphy type who has no physical presence?

How many of his kicks hit the target - how easily does his opponent out muscle him.

I'll agree his VFL form warranted selection, but his AFL form warrants VFL time.

Did anyone see him get crunched on the weekend (mind you anyone else it would have been nothing) and he ran over to the bench to tyr and get taken off but couldn't.

Give me Bullen over him anyday.

He has no physical presence, he is not quick, he is too fancy with his disposal, and I don't think he is accountable at all.

We will not win a flag if he is in the team. Well if he is we will be one man down.

We need another player to compliment the work of Peverill, Jason Johnson, Hird, Mark Johnson, Solomon etc.

I didn't see him miss a target on the weekend.

I don't remember seeing him pushed off the ball. Sure he isn't Jason Johnson, but he isn't Jason Winderlich either.

I saw him take a hit in the shoulder while he had his head down over the ball at a stoppage. I then saw him go to the bench but there wasn't a player ready to come on so he had to wait.

Two weeks ago he tagged Josh Carr (one of the premium midfielders in the comp) and kept him out of the game.

Thants what a guy like Stanton is for, and Dyson etc. Faster, bigger, and will be better players

i saw him choose plenty of poor options - perhaps I should have chosen better words for my comments on him this week in this regard.

Winderlich is tougher than him. Saw a couple of times he was one on one and his opponent just pushed him aside.

Exactly - it wasn'teven a big hit - it was just made that way because of his size

Two weeks ago he tagged Josh Carr (one of the premium midfielders in the comp) and kept him out of the game.
How much game times did he have against Freo - didn;t thin it was that much, and his game against Port - he was responsible for letting them get the 1st goal of the last quarter, and his opponent smashed us in James.

I just can;t see him being of much use, other than to fill a gap while the kids develop. He has lost his pace - if he still had pace to pburn it would be a different story - but he is not quick and small guys must be to be effective.

You don't like him. And that's fair enough, can't expect everyone to rate every player on our list, but give the bloke a chance and I don't mean a chance on the list, I mean a chance to actually play at AFL. It's easy to say he has had his chances, but realistically until the last couple of weeks, he hasn't. But next time you watch him, try and remove your negative bias and look at the positives that he brings. Alvey is still a developing player.

His form has got consistently better over the last few rounds as his game time has increased. In the last two weeks in particular he has spotted up targets that have resulted in goals, that is something we have desperately lacked.

He made a couple of errors, but so did James Hird. But it's easier to jump on a bloke like Mark Alvey when we aren't going well.

I just look at Alvey and see Murhpy version two - i just don;t think we can afford two of them. And if it means playing Alvey ahead of Say Monfires, i also don;t want it.

It is no suprise that since Henno and Bolton have left we have improved - why becasue we have younger more enthusiatic blokes running around.

I don;t think Alvey improves the team, I agree he deserved selection as form was good enough for Bendigo, but I just can't see him getting a regular spot. Same goes for Bullen and haynes - don't think they add to the team.

Look I hope Alvey proves me wrong, but I fear it is his lost pace that will be his undoing. That and his penchant for thinking he is better than he is.

I don't think Alvey has taken the place of Monfries. I want Angus in the team, but I honestly believe it would be better for his development to play out the season in the two's (with the odd AFL game) and put on weight over the pre-season. Angus will play every game next year with a bit of extra weight, and he will do so in the midfield.

You could argue that Alvey has taken the spot of Dyson, but Dyson's form has not yet warranted selection. The difference between Murphy and Alvey is that Murph is 29, Alvey is 23 and has missed a whole season because of knee injury and last year was basically a write-off due to confidence. Mark Alvey still has a lot of development in him, a bit of confidence has already seen improvement from him and I believe that will continue to flourish as he continues to get ground time. His next step is to start kicking goals, if he can do that we have a pretty valuable weapon in our rotations.

Completely agree.
