Talk of getting rid of Hardwick is crazy. And rebuild? We went big at the draft last year, and will probably do it again this year.

I expected us to win on the weekend and we're playing patchy football, but we can and will get better this year.

I think we've been in front in every game in the 3rd quarter this year - which tells you we aren't far away from getting it right. And with around 3 triple premiership players to come back into the side - one being the greatest Tiger to ever put on the jumper, forgive me for being optimistic.

There's only 1 standout team this year and 2 other strong sides - (Bris and Swans) and you could throw a blanket over 10 other teams.

It's the year of opportunity. I mean St. Kilda, Carlton, Freo and Hawthorn are in the 8. Do you really think that after the hard slog of the winter months and grind of the long season these teams will still be there for finals? Nah.

We're 1 game and about 5 goals of percentage out of the 8.

Just need to announce it's a rebuilding season this year and next. Then the attitude around the club changes...

The problem is the club did all these media saying watch out we are back etc and they will look stupid if they do.

I think a one to two year rebuild is possible these days with a more even competition but not enough believe it yet

I have lots of games on the DVR, I went back and watched our game against the Crows from 2018, we beat them easily, comparing it to last Saturday's game, the way our players played and put in was not much different. We had Dusty back then but also had players like Caddy in key positions and Balta was not as good back then.

So, I think it's more a case of the game has got faster, teams run more, tackle more and deliver the ball faster. We just haven't kept up, we're are still playing the chaos game, where we try and lock it in to the fwd 50. It's not working now, we need a complete change of game plan, whether we have the players to do this now is another question.

One thing that has always baffled me, and not just about Richmond, but in the selection of just about all senior teams, is why do clubs insist on using roughly the same 22 players week after week? Why is it that our selectors think the same team that beat the Bulldogs at the MCG should be the same as the one that takes on the Crows at Adelaide Oval? Both opponents differ greatly in their structure and components, yet we choose pretty much the same team to confront them, rather than tailoring the team on any given week to tackle the actual opponent. It's like we have to get beaten before we consider rotating the squad, but winning just results in a default "she'll be right" response.

And let the rebuild begin.

Better late than never. I think its about at this point the people who were very critical of supporters for a lack of loyalty and belief for insisting a rebuild was our most sensible option get some acknowledgement that they were just realist & not judas reincarnate

Have a feeling we might have seen the end of Ben Miller & Aarts - also not sure where Kane Lamberts AFL future lies beyond this year as out of contract

Continuity. It tends to be the glue to success

Yep. In all three of our flags we only made 3 changes total between finals.
And that’s why we’re struggling so much now. Other teams have picked us apart.

What’s the saying in this comp? If you don’t improve you’re going backwards.

I’ve always been of the view you need to regenerate your side with a minimum of 3 new best 22 players every season otherwise you plateau and other sides get a good read on you. Gibcus, Dow, Hugo, Parker and Ross is a really good start for 2022. Plenty more to come!

By that time you get to finals, continuity is critical. During the season a bit of tactical selection is important. It gives you 6 months to experiment and find the game style that works best for your team. There is no point perfecting a game style that doesn't work when the intensity goes up (as it does in finals).

H&A is also great for evaluating players & giving them a run at it to push their case for Finals should we get there.

Parker and Ross are not the future. Both are honest battlers with very poor skill level by hand and foot.
Both should be lucky to survive the year. But with the likely retirements of Jack, Cotch and Edwards, combined with delistings of Martyn and most likely Miller. They may get a reprieve.

Miller is not going anywhere. He is dropped this week because the Demons have a relatively small/quick forwardline without an obvious matchup for Miller. Miller has had a solid year and been consistent in defense. With Tarrant and Grimes close to retirement age, the last thing we want to do is get rid of a strong, consistent full back when he's finally finding some form and consistency. Biggy is the same - finally finding consistency and form. He should get an opportunity soon.

Disagree about Ross

This is true, but from memory when we won the flag in 2019, we did so using the most players on our list in history. Every player played a senior game, except for 6 ( RCD, Miller, Turner, Moore, Aarts, English ). This INCLUDED rookie listed players. It was one of the reasons i really felt the club was well placed to roll over from one dynasty to a very strong next era.

For whatever reason though, that hasn't happened though.

Hopefully the selection that we saw this week is actually a sign of the way we're going to go moving forward and not a short term view simply to ensure we're able to take a stronger side to Perth next week.

I like the idea of giving the kids a run of games to allow them to settle into the side and find some confidence that they belong at the level. I'm not expecting to see any of them come out and dominate games, but just want to see them put together some solid games and give fans something to get excited about, much like how Dow Miller Ross & Gibcus have shown glimpses, hopefully RCD & Mansell can to the same and we also get a look at Sonsie Banks & Nyoun in the coming weeks. I'm actually looking forward to tomorrow more than I would be if we'd loaded up with senior players to try and knock Melbourne off.

Agree , the list changing at the end of the year
Is going to be huge considering some legends of the club will be gone we are slowly introducing fresh faces while still being competitive, think as a fan that's all we can ask.

Same here, As previous poster mentioned our list starts to change at seasons end & the kids need to be ready to step up & fill more snr roles next yr. That process has already started & them being ready for those roles hopefully starts now. While the older guys are still there is the perfect time for them to be in the side so they can learn from them.

I am only interested in the development of the kids at the moment.

I actually do not think we are that far away from another run at it in the not too distant future. So the any development the kids can get to help their advancement is gold for them and our prospects going forward

One only has to look at the teams entering the eight now and those dropping out. Their is not a lot of difference between them. Melbourne is the stand out but they will weaken in a few years and by then we have the chance to actually have a run at it I think given how the rest of the competition is shaping

After Melbourne we have a soft kill versus West Coast. That would be a great chance to give some of our youngsters exposure to the higher level and what is involved increasing their experience and learning in a less confronting task while some of our seniors have a break to refresh themselves

I just look at the lists of Gold Coast & GWS and think how some of these young talented kids are going to be wasted up there and this is where we should be looking to raid whilst we still have the pull of a successful big club. Bruhn , Callaghan , Stone , Green would all be great gets and GC Anderson , Hollands , Rowell etc.

All the kids would have a few years development already and known quality mitigating risk of the unknown
