With Hopper and Taranto on the way, I thought I'd have a go at building a best 22 of players under 26:

B: Gibcus Balta Nyuon
HB: D.Rioli Stack Baker
C: Banks Taranto Ralphsmith
HF: M.Rioli Bolton Short
F: Bauer Ryan Cumberland
R: Soldo Hopper Sonsie
IC: Mansell Ross Graham Miller
SUB: Clarke

It's a bit light on for key forwards, but that is a bloody good side full of stars and kids with a lot of potential.

With Dusty no longer on $1.3 mill in 2 years time, I predicting a doozy forward coming to Richmond.

Yep I think so too. Especially with Lynch only having one more year on his deal at that time too.

Ben King, Logan McDonald, Aaron Naughton and Jamara Ugle-Hagen are all out of contract in 2024.

Hopps and TT would be epic.

Well, if we are not looking at birth certificates, bring back Jimmy Jess to swing between CHB and CHF.
I mention age because he'll be 34 and slowing by the year - it's an issue.
And trust me ... you age quite quickly year by year after 30.
He survived on smarts this year.
I said it all last year when Edwards was so obviously in decline.
Look how it turned out ... wasn't even a shell of his average years this year.

So is it your opinion we should have retired him off and gone into next year with Lynch and Bauer/Ryan as our key forwards?

Risky because if RFC does not win at least one premiership in the next two years Dimma and Blair face the sack by the looks of it

Gibcus (and sonsie) are excellent talents and should be good long term players for the tigers.

I'm still not sure about going the Tarrant route and not bringing in another mature mid; Mitchell. Crouch. Treloar etc. To add to the short term.

We almost had the best of both worlds and made it into week 2 of the finals. Ah well.

Interesting to see the direction the club takes now
Thing with Tarant is, when we got him we didn't have Gibcus & we didn't know how good Gibcus would be so early. It's allowed us to manage Gibcus tho which is great.

Well, yes, almost. Our KPF stocks are still a serious concern, and we might have precious little draft currency for the next couple of years to do anything about it. But as for midfield yes.
reckon we'll get a pick or two back to take to the draft. Just have to nail them.

I really really hope so.

The perfect trade period would be Taranto and Hopper and keeping 19 (or even upgrading it) for a young KPF. I know this would probably mean making painful trades but with Riewoldt going on for (just) one more year and Lynch turning 30 in October this is the time to do it.

Anyhow, we are being super aggressive with Taranto and Hopper to redress out midfield issues, I hope we don't stop there and we do likewise in trying to secure a highly rated young KPF.

That's how I felt waking up on 30th Sept 2017, with a much heavier head though, what a time to be a Richmond supporter.

That was the best! Just so out of the blue. I know Geelong 2020 was the 'best'. But for me 2017 was the one that made me happiest

I agree, refresh meaning no draft picks this year, we are looking to upgrade big time end of 2023 now we are looked and loaded for 2022 apart from rookies

Trade the draft picks we have this year to Brisbane for a future pick maybe

I will not be welcoming a new draftee if we get one this year because he will cost us a better player we might get end of next year

I am sure that the draftee will be livid about that. Just achieved their dreams of getting onto an AFL list but the lack of welcome from a bigfooty crack-pot will really dampen the achievements.

you know I don't care if he don't care

The focus should be good players looking to leave Gold Coast, GWS and St Kilda amongst others end of 2023, what do we need to do to further boost our team then while we get rookie support in the meantime

Finding a key forward is for 'Future Us' to worry about. 'Present Us' can just enjoy watching another few flags in the meantime....

It looks the biggest hole.

Long term, interesting to see if the young players are enough to cover missing two drafts..

Gibcus. Sonsie. Clarke. Banks. Brown. Rioli. Bauer. Ralphsmith. Dow. Nyuon. Etc.

Hops and TT at 26. 25. Next seasons is a decent fit
