Barry Pre-tender-gast should be shown the door ASAP as well.

The drafting over the past 4 years has been appalling to say the least with the picks we have had.

We have drafted too many similar types, tall flankers, bugger all KPP's.

Soft receivers who cant win their own ball. The lack of hardness in this team is alarming (Tapscott excluded), its like we are drafting a side to play touch footy, seriously.

Guys who apparently had 'elite' disposal at under 18 level have been shown up as fraud's at AFL level.

We didnt even interview Dustin Martin before the 09 draft, honestly, what the **** is with that. You have the first two picks in the draft, surely you want to explore all the options. Im not saying we should have taken Martin over TS or JT but would it hurt to look outside the box? Mind-blowing incompetent.

There has been very little 'drafting for our needs'. Our 'needs' are obvious for all to see. But hey, I could live with we 'drafted the best available' but our recruiting department is so incompetent they cant even deliever us that.

We need players with heart and hardness, this has been a need since 2001. BP, you have failed to deliver.

He recruited to Deans game plan and wishes.

Bit early to make the call on some our recruits... I'd say the recruiting to the lead up to BP was the real problem. Someone thought neitz was going to play till he was 50 judging from our recruitment policy.

Martin wasn't interviewed at draft camp. That doesn't mean we didn't talk to him, just that we'd made our mind up on JT and TS by the time draft camp happened

Cheney was behind bartram for a spot in our 22. Had we known clint was going to get injured and half the season then sure, maybe we would be better off with Cheney

All I will say. Look at how many players looked dud, or soft, or finished under one coach/panel; and turned it around a year down the track.
So much of footy is above the shoulders.

Pretty much this. I have hope for Bennel and co under a new regime. He has had some very good performances here and there.

Get in a coach that the players respect - a coach that will instil aggression and pride.

On top of that - a few players with some experience under their belt. They dont have to be superstars - they need to be guys willing to put their asses on the line week in/out.

Do this and our young guys will flourish. We WILL be competitive EVERY week.

i got smashed for starting a thread on this
we have way too many guys who rely on someone else doing the dirty work for them to look good, too many guys who wanna be on the outside of the pack finishing of the pretty stuff, and not enough people who just wanna push past people and get the ****ing ball!

My main only gripe atm is drafting Blease & Strauss (both soft/skinny from what i see) over someone like Shuey.

I don't think Prendargast has done a bad job.

Bennell, Strauss and Blease may be frowned upon but it's still early days with all 3.

I can't think of any other poor picks.

On the contrary, Howe, McKenzie, Tapscott, Gawn, Bail, Nicholson and Jurrah (although recent form has been shaky) have been excellent picks from outside the first round.

SS, seriously, i could have recruited for us just as well with the picks we have had.

The list has too many obvious deficiencies for the quality of picks we have had.

Funny, how Freos' recruiting was considered shite under Schwab/Connolly. I would look there myself.

And having looked at WCE recruiting, its a lot to do with money. You guys have been doing it on a shoe string so that can make recruiters jobs difficult.

Prendegast has done a great job.

He started in 08' so it's not his fault that our senior players lack balls.

Trengove, Scully, Gysberts, Tapscott, Bail.

They are all mids who can win their own ball. He also wanted to pick Redden instead of Bennell but Redden was picked up earlier than expected.

Watts, Gawn, Strauss, Jurrah, Howe, Nicholson have all shown signs at AFL level.

I also have a lot of faith in Blease, but Shuey may well have been a better pick.

He hasn't done a lot wrong IMO.

Rubbish he has Craig Cameron written all over him. We supposedly went for players that can kick but no of them can. Prendergast has done nothing, get rid of him before we realise that he has had 10 years to destroy the list like Cameron did.

I could of sworn that I made a thread similar to this. Why do we have another one?

Iunno, maybe because yours was made three and a half hours after Rude's, so you clearly didn't check before putting yours up.

EDIT: my bad, was looking at the second page.:o

Who exactly?

Oh, you mean Strauss and Gysberts.

Players who have played LESS THAN 20 GAMES AT AFL LEVEL.

FFS.

All of them, it doesn't matter how old you are if continue to turn the ball over your not going to win too many games.

In the end it could be down to the confidence levels that Bailey has ripped off them.

If we can't improve our skill level shortly Prendergast has to be the next one under the pump.

You're 100% correct, the recruiting manager MUST take responsibility for increasing the skill level of the players over the pre-season. Having spent the last 9 months watching youngsters across the land, he's best placed to run skills-based excercises at training for the rest of the year

What?

Explain when any of our young players who can 'kick' constantly turn the ball over.

The boys will mature, all it requires is patience.

If a quality experienced player was available that would be a different story.
