Recruiting Targets Summary

Nah there is usually 5-7 players moved around per club per year.

What we are seeing is that clubs are keener to pick up delisted KPPs/Rucks if they can't pick up a top 40 one in the draft. Also clubs tend to retain their mids longer even if it means rookie listing them, ie us with Ah Chee and Logan. It is all part of a movement towards having 23 regular players, 5 break glass in emergency type players and the rest development.

im surprised we don't have any train with players. i would have thought that seeing as we have crappy picks that we would focus on older age recruits.

perhaps.... but we may possibly have only 4-6 live picks. including rookie picks. If a ruck as expected is one of those, there might be a theory that we couldn't miss out on an entire crop of the national draft.

If we were planning to go with a couple possible train ons i would suspect it would be in the rookie draft. We may have a large amount of picks and the ability to offer them a 1 year deal and less cash.

We haven't started training yet?

our 1-4 year players start monday. the draft is not for a few weeks after that. i would have thought we'd have a few players train with us in that time.

FYI

AFL permission to train list
Carlton -
Jason Tutt (Western Bulldogs)
Collingwood - Tony Armstrong (Collingwood)
Essendon - Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti (Essendon VFL), Sam Tagliabue (Essendon VFL)
Gold Coast - Greg Broughton (Gold Coast), Andrew Raines (Brisbane Lions)
Melbourne - Mitchell Gent (Casey Scorpions), Edward Morris (Casey Scorpions), James Munro (Casey Scorpions), Bryce Rutherford (Casey Scorpions), Luke Tapscott (Melbourne)
North Melbourne - Cameron Delaney (North Melbourne), Max Warren (North Melbourne)
St Kilda - Cameron Banfield (Sandringham), Elliot le Grice (Sandringham), Shaun McKernan (Adelaide), Jack Noone (Sandringham), Kenny Ong (Sandringham), Jared Petrenko (Adelaide), Adam Schneider (St Kilda), Jeremy Taylor (Gold Coast)
Western Bulldogs - Brett Goodes (Western Bulldogs), Alex Greenwood (Western Bulldogs), Daniel Pearce (Western Bulldogs)

I didnt think you could have train on players prior to the national draft?

I'm reasonably sure you can if they have previously been eligible for the National Draft. As long as you have permission.

We definitely need more height with experience so he looks like a good option but teams don't usually delist 196cm players without good reason

He wasn't ever really a recruiting target (well maybe to a few) but Terry Milera has signed with Glenelg.

Good to see them wringing the last drops out of their oily rag.

Would be disappointed if we don't sign up one of Brown, Johnston or Grimley.

Grimley would be the one to look at as he has been in the system for a few years (and he could give back up to Lobbe until Ryder comes back). he can play up forward (and this year he was from memory the leading goal kicker for Hawks VFL side)

with our picks it would be better to add to our depth with the younger players (instead of older age recruits)

we could get a young ruck or two, a young KPD, a young KPF etc to get games into for when Schulzy (for example) retires in a few years time. we don't need older recruits to take away game time from our young players

They have been burning up the track according to some reports. Crows must be devistated.

I hope we pick up Alex Spina (ex crows rookie) as a rookie .. he was picked up late and didn't have much of a pre season

here is some info on him:-

The skilful South Australian joined Adelaide in Rookie Draft. From North Adelaide, Spina was selected in the 2013 AIS-AFL Academy squad and represented SA at the Under-18 National Championships. He spent the majority of 2013 in the SANFL reserves. Spina has great speed, agility and evasive skills.

The versatile 18-year-old has averaged 17 disposals a game (for cows SANFL side) and booted four goals from roles on the wing, half-forward and half-back.

now imagine if we pick him up and he gets the pre season (and a very hard pre season under Burgo)

if he could make it for us then that would devastate the cow supporters big time :D

Since we passed over Spina last year he's done nothing of note except be delisted by a bottom 8 team, and you think we should pick him up?
