It's very enjoyable hunting. But some animals are so hard to find, particularly the small ones.

Anyone been able to actually get a squirrel? In the whole time I've only seen one racoon and that was this morning. Barely come across any foxes either.

Have you tried changing the settings so it's easier for you?

I had that message too. There was a bear in the area.

I went out of the area then came back and I got the buck.

List of things I have done in that area in an attempt to clear 'activity';

- bounty with the guy hiding in the mine
- debt collection with the guy hunting the white cougar
- big o'driscoll camp to the north
- tiny o'driscoll camp smack bang in the middle of the area
- random encounter with a hunter
- random encounter wagon crash and guy wanting me to mind his gear
- random encounter surprise cabin bear (you'll know if you've done it lol)
- inspected indian burial site
- killed about 4 bears and more wolves and cougars than I can count

All of that while also leaving the area and returning and sleeping multiple times. Still same message

Its ridiculous, I'm guessing its just bugged for me. Can't be designed like that surely.

I’m assuming very late chapter 5

Tuberculosis? Really? This better be done really, really well because killing off the main protagonist as an attempt to pull heart strings is so over done and one of the biggest cop outs these days imo. It doesn’t work on me. It’s cheap. You know what would have been a savage blow? Cath Braithwaite killing Jack.

That straight after the stint on the island. One of my pet peeves of games like this is when they change the setting and put it on rails for an hour or so. Leave me in my world where I can **** around as I please.

Two massive hits on my overall rating of this game because of these two things alone.

Well hang on, seeing as that killed more people back then than anything else it makes perfect sense. As for the savage blow: RDR would literally mean nothing if that occured

After the chapter 2 getting drunk with Lenny mission, I woke up ages from camp. Had to walk back, grab a horse from camp, and ride it back to Valentine to pick my prized, expensive thoroughbred - John.

The horse I rode into town became my temp horse, and he stayed that way into chapter 3. Eventually, I felt bad for him, saddled him up, and rode him out on a mission. I named him Roland. This turned out to be a mission where you ditch your horse and are forced to ride another random horse back to camp, however. In the process, I lost my thoroughbred. So I had to reload an old save to retrieve John, then stick him permanently in a stable because he had become too expensive to risk losing.

My stable is packed though. There's my first, horse, almost a mule, I refuse to give up on because he was my first. There's the war horse that came with the game that I don't wish to part with. And there's John. But my current horse kinda sucks, and in the spirit of the Melbourne Cup, I think tonight is the night I out old Roland out to pasture. Or I'll leave him around camp, I don't know yet.

I ran for 20 minutes to get my main horse not knowing that you can have a secondary horse without losing it, on the plus side I have almost maxed out my stamina.

I think sometimes they just don’t simply spawn. Last time I went for the bear nothing was showing. I tried leaving and coming back but had no luck. Haven’t been back since so not sure. Been playing with the bro in law in party chat the last couple days and on Monday he couldn’t get the buck to spawn for the life of him. Yesterday he went back after who knows how many game days, missions and distance travelled and he got it within 5 minutes.

Yeah after spending probably a weeks worth of game time up there I've ****ed off back to Rhodes, will try again after a bit (nice touch though - once I got out of the mountains Charles appears out of nowhere asking where I've been and when I'm coming back to camp lol).

Just a massive pain because the legendary buck talisman gives you a better chance of finding perfect pelts so I wanted that early on for crafting purposes.

Guys i'm only in Chapter 2 just taking my time, but i found a treasure map which then leads to another treasure map, which then leads you well north to an island in a lake, however i cannot for the life of me get over the mountains to get to where i need to go. Horse and I just keep slipping. It seems like the mountains are there deliberately to stop me from going north for the time being, and i cannot find any other way through. Help?

Last night was fun

I kept stealing carriages with a mask on and no bounty .....was able to To rack up 300 bucks in a an hour...there is carriage fence in the North ....I sit just outside the town and steal them then take them to sell ...selling rprice is $25 or $40 a pop and it’s easy money

The bait shop has finally appeared so I went north and collected some new baits ...upgraded my village so I have a constant supply of food, ammo and medicines ...this makes the camp happy too

Feeding the horses is important

Building up horse stats takes time but every time you get on your horse you guve it one pat, on brush and a great bonding builds up quicker

I’ve found try9mg to shoot multiple targets on horseback hard ....I raise to wear there is cover then jump off the hires while still moving slowly then taking cover and picking them off one by one .....fire bottles are fun and I took out three Baddies in one hit ...they all caught on fire

I’m still in chapter three ......and I never get bored with

On Horse Bonding...

If you're travelling at a canter/walk you can pat your horse and it'll add to bonding, the cool down for this is about 14 seconds so at times when you're forced to travel at that speed for missions or cruising around towns/cities you can do it over and over so long as you observe the 14 second break.

Just set up a tent outside the area and sleep til morning, it comes in the morning most frequently

If it says too much activity leave the area again and sleep again, you don't need to do any killing or clearing/missions in the area

Final thoughts on RDR2.

Even though I played through until the end, it's a very average game considering it's budget and 8 years of development.

The scripted stuff in the world isn't that impressive or original, the main game-play is still slow, inconsistent and clunky. The game is full of too much unnecessary shit like the consumable items, weapons that all do the same damage and crafting. You can play the game without needing to craft, spend money at the shops or do any kind of upgrades - it's just jammed in there for the fake diverse illusion that open world games do to make them look in-depth when they aren't. The biggest proof that all this extra stuff means nothing is with the "Camp" system. This stuff isn't worth doing, it won't actually improve anything if you know how to aim and press R1.

Things like random encounters, greetings and errands are pointless considering the thing they revolve around (Honor) gets stripped regularly off you and Chapter 6 has a 50% bonus, so why care about them or waste time doing them until then. It's another poorly designed mechanic of the game in there to make it look bigger than it really is.

The long, unskippable horse rides between either another fetch quest or railway shooting mission made me lose interest in the story, which you can tell they put all their efforts into to help bubble wrap the flaws with the polluting dialogue. Unmemorable, predictable story with an unmemorable cast, funny how the two most well written characters (Dutch / John) were from the first entry.

The betters parts of the game I found were the stranger missions, hunting (Which I prioritized immersing myself with compared to the main missions majority of the time), and doing the collectables around the map. Thought the sound was really good in this game, sound effects all the way onto the track choices. The visuals obviously were great too, the wind filter effect and lighting when riding polished the atmosphere like no other game. These two things made the game more realistic than the annoying dialogue and interactions.

I'm not sure when I'll play the Online, but I'm sure that'll be great fun like RDR1. I doubt I'll Platinum this one either, bit of a chore.

6/10.

Needed more Bertram.

Sounds like it isn't your kind of game. You seem more attuned to a call of duty fast paced style of game with instant reward. I personally love the small details that add reality to world, like waking up getting my coffee, giving my horse a brush and a pat, getting on my horse, travelling through the wilderness on the way to a mission, taking my time to get there to soak it all in, it's what makes the game so much fun. And I enjoy the random stranger encounters for what they are, I don't care about getting extra honor, I do them because they are fun. There is no point to them. As I said, doesn't sound like your kind of game. I would bet you aren't a big fan of Japanese style RPG either where you go through 20-30 minutes of dialog at points. The horse rides are a long that vein and I love JPRG.

and 6 out of 10 is taking the piss.

To be honest, if there's a bit of RNG involved with things like this I don't mind. Makes the achievement more satisfying.

There's a vid on YT of the location of the final treasure.

Must have done that 5 times (move outside the area, sleep till morning). No dice :(

I remember walking (it’s a hike most have hear off) the overland track in tassie

I took 9 days to immerse myself in it ...loved it

A few guys rraced last me and they said ...it’s a bit lame and boring isn’t it

Wtf.......people who rush through things never fully experience what it has to offer

Back to RDR ...it’s 10 for mine ...

For sure. RDR2 is taking games to another level. It's not all about getting points and winning, it's about slowing down and smelling the roses. It's the only game I've played where I genuinely feel bad for killing innocents, or when I get attacked randomly, my heart goes crazy. It's realism on a whole other level. If players don't like realism, then go back to fortnite.

You’re missing the point

It’s 1890s ...it’s not gta

Wouldn't of thought the games setting has anything to do with what I said. By your logic, Assasin's Creed 2 is set during the Italian Renaissance (1400s) - that's a stealth game that is somehow less slow and clunky than a 2018 developed Wild West action game.

I think I played one Call Of Duty game 10 years ago. Not after an instant reward and the thing is there is no reward in this game for all the slow-burn moments you sit through and optional game mechanics, which is my main problem. I didn't care about Honor, but you can tell it was poorly designed and they were using AI for it that was dumber than MGSVs which is a 13/14 developed game.

I actually have played a lot of JRPGs. Difference is they aren't packed with optional, filler game-play and written by people who need to play it safe and mold around the first game.

I thought 6/10 is pretty fair, you're lying to yourself if you actually think a lot of the MSM reviews for this title are legitimate for a game produced by a studio giant being released in Q4. The current user score of a 7 is more accurate.

It’s OK for people to have different opinions and I don’t see what gives anyone the right to be condescending to those who have different ones. I don’t agree with some of the criticisms listed in this thread by some yet others I do. I don’t think it’s a perfect game by any means and there is plenty of evidence to suggest certain parts of the game were rushed and/or weren’t correctly executed.

I wasn't really being condescending, just defending my original opinion considering it was called out based on my personal rating and the assumption I prefer COD & don't play JRPGs - points which are untrue and unrelated, poor comparisons to this game.

The MSM line was a bit over the top but has some truth, Colin Moriarty played until Chapter 3 when he put his review out - yet hasn't touched the game since. I checked out the PSN profiles of a few "reviewers" and some had not even finished Chapter 2, yet their reviews were listed 100s on MetaCritic. Can be a good or bad thing but that's how the industry is today. The main point of that line was just to say scoring isn't really mertiable these days and if these paid officials actually put in the same time into the game then the scoring will look more like the user reviews - which is close to my 6 and doesn't make it look like "taking the piss".

So just returned home from overseas last night and bought this today.

Decided to buy it on Xbox one instead of PS4.

Question, is the PS4 multiple cds too? or is it just like this on xbox one?

Have you tried entering the area on foot and crouched? I tried that after having similar issues with the buck and it appeared pretty quickly thereafter
