He is definitely an all-rounder but definitely NOT a number 3 batsman.
Tom Cooper made 150 odd in SACA A-grade last weekend. He might be due for another chance.
Cooper has had a good grade season so far, but has not really looked comfortable at the next level.

I'd be looking at Harris & Doropoulos next.

Harris yes, Doropolous hasnt impressed me that much.
You're right that cooper hasnt looked comfortable at state level, but then not many batsman have for SA over hte past 10 years.

This is where our grade system is failing our players. We don't appear capable to produce batsmen who can take their game to the level required to play Sheffield Shield. The other states appear to be able to do this.

This is just wrong. Tom Cooper had a very good Shield year last season and was really starting to look like he belonged. It's just this year that he is totally out of form.

He will be a very good shield player, he just needs to regain his confidence.

Hes been in the system what 5-6 years? Has had ample opportunities and hasnt performed. Dont know whats so wrong about that. You're right he had a couple of good games last year but few and far between.

Well, that's partially true.

Cooper had a very good start to the season - scores of 44, 56 & 0 & the biggie - 98 & 203 no against NSW.

For some unknown reason he really struggles against Luke Butterworth from Tasmania. Dismissed cheaply by him 4 out of 6 times recently.

How is that any different to an AFL player needing 50 to 60 (4 or 6 years) games before playing his best.

Yes Tom Cooper has been in all sorts this season but to say he hasn't "looked comfortable" at shield level is just wrong.

Because cricket is not football.
Footy requires you to build your body over time as an important part of being a good player.
There are plenty of batsman out there that have had fewer opportunities than Cooper and done a lot more. Just so happens that not many of them are in the Redbacks squad otherwise he mightve got the boot a long while ago.

How good is Putland at the moment? Five 5fas in only fifteen matches, topped with a 7/64 to tear the heart out of the Vics. We may as well call Hughes the messiah too, carried us when he's played.
