It was apparent to me against St Kilda that over the past few weeks Reece has been playing an identical role to Hamish Hartlett at Port Adelaide. He is floating across the half back flank and sometimes makes offensive plays from the wing. He does get an opponent but isn't really playing accountable football. I thought he looked really good in the midfield but is barely getting a run anymore.

Thoughts?

I think he's been great this year of the half-back flank streaming down the wings.
No sign of second year blues which is great.

Thought he played really well on the weekend. His composure and footskills are great. I am relaxed when the ball is in his hands.

Almost any player seems to always look good in the midfield but Reece is playing a role and he is doing it well and that is all that matters. Similar to Jackson, it will not look as flashy with brilliance but it is a role that makes the team function. I'm not worried and I do not think Reece is going backwards either. Its all about team.

He's so smooth. You want your smoothest movers to be free and have time, hence why he's been floating around on the wings and half back. God he's good.

How's the chant of 'smoooooooth' going everytime he gets the ball. I seem to be the only one doing it...

2nd year in and doing well. working off half back i thinks fits quite well with where is at.

you can forget him going into the mids though. who are you pulling out to fit him in ?

I think he's going alright at the moment. Not spectacularly well but still learning how to contribute as best he can to the team.... definitely improvement from his first season. I'll not be surprised if he plays 250+ games for the club....

Should be in for a lot more midfield time with Foley out, which I'm keen to see. I think he'll eventually move into the midfield from half back, he's better moving through traffic than he is receiving in space.

So useful.hehe.thanks for your share.

I still don't see what all the gushing over this bloke is about.
I think he is still speculative at pick 6.
He seems to give away stupid frees and can turn it over under pressure.
He sometimes doesn't go hard enough as in the last qtr last week where he went one handed instead of two and lost it.
I think Brandon Ellis at pick15 has gone past him in only 10 games.
I just don't see him being the star people on this board go on about.

I tend to agree and I certainly am a little concerned when the footy is in his hands .
A few critical errors at critical times, however he is young and most certainly has time upon his side .

stokesy i see it differently and thought i saw ellis cost us a coupla goals bc he just didnt get to the ball to spoil it. i am not giving it to ellis as he will learn the craft over many years but just pointing out imo ellis hasnt gone past him at all. as for the free kicks im still with conca in that his opponent dragged him down over the top of him and sucked the ump in.

If you watch it closely, Saad traps Conca's wrist with his armpit and as Conca struggled to wrench free, Saad took a little dive. Hence, free kick. It was cunning play by Saad and nothing more.

I dont think he's speculative, he's been very solid. Cant ask much more for a player that's played 1 1/2 seasons. He's on par with the best long kicks at the club, after 3-4 pre seasons he will be a vital part of our midfield rotations. Can see him making the wing his own eventually. As for Ellis, he looks every bit the first year player - tentative and indecisive. Does some good things but is no where near Conca at the moment.

As far as the free kicks goes i wasn't refering to the sling last week, although the sling was regretable i know Conca was being held and blocked.
I just think he barrels in a lot without thinking and gives away in the back or to high when applying a tackle to somebody over the ball.
I do agree that he is young and has time on his side and has a good skill base to build upon.
I just don't think at this point in time he is as good or has been as good as people are making out.

I think Conca is suffering a little of the 'high draft pick' expectations.

If he was a pick 15-20 we'd be pleased. He looks like a long-term player. I think we are all hoping to see just a bit more from a No 6 draft pick (particularly when he was a bit of a 'surprise pick' and the No 8 won the Rising star - not that I think Heppell is any world-beater).

He has very good hands in close however. I see him as a centre square clearance player in the future when he gets a bit stronger.

Ellis gone past him in 10 games ey? That's a laugh. Might need to pay a bit more attention.

Conca is performing above expectations for a 2nd year player. Perhaps people just expect too much after seeing Martin coming through not too recently. Take out the sub game he's averaging around 20 touches as a mid. He's a smoother mover, generally makes the right decision in traffic, goes in hard and tackles hard contrary to your opinion and is a good kick.

Went up back the last few weeks to cover the Batchelor loss and fill a hole and he performed well. Hoping with Foley out he's back in the midfield this week.

Going alright, great composure, and I think personally he's developing nicely right among a great list of footballers. What a great time to be playing for the yellow & black.
