More nightmare before Christmas...what's this?
Grinch is just thankful that McInnes is a cruiser rather than an accelerator. God knows why other than seeing in McInnes a Pendlebury look alike on field.

IMO Reef in his under age year was one of those unassuming players that simple did everything right. Reliable, rarely beaten, athlete who can play anywhere.
Reef will take time to develop his tank and when he does the question CFC will need to ponder is where to play him.
Reef has really good footy IQ and skills to match, could develop into a player similar to Jack Darling or Elliot Yeo or Tom Clurey. Reef's leadership in the VFL in 2021 IMO was exciting . Reef elevated his game in the final quarter of a couple of games to get his team over the line. CFC v Goldcoast was one of those games from memory...
Still only expecting a handful of games form Reef this year, this will be a development year in the VFL, really looking forward to it.

Yeah very plausible explanation.

also;
Some people can run fast on hard sprung surfaces and slow down in the grassy bog.

Some just don't know how to use it well or time it or have aggression in their movements.

And when wind assisted

Probably only a few AFL games but hoping he comes on to earn a few more.

Saw a post about Poulter which reminded me, both Poulter and Reef are still very young, just turned 19....They are more than likely still growing and are closing in on 6 foot 4, big units, both could end up being KPPs.

Very unlikely.

Both are 194cm now apparantely if we go by the website. But doubtful they'll be KPP's.. No doubt Reef has that capability with his ability to play forward, but they'll both be midfielders. Its just their best positions.

Poulter is a clean mark - could be developed as an intercept defender I reckon. Not sure where he'll end up - I haven't seen centre square vibes though. I'd be looking at half back/wing.

Yeah. Could he make it in the role he is now? A tall winger?

A bit will depend on how Craig Macrae wants to use the wings. He would have excelled in the Bucks keep your spacing wing role, but I'm hoping our wings are used differently to how Bucks used them.

Yeah -- Once they do full on match sims starting January, I'll have to keep an eye out on how that will work. To see what he does differently.

How would you prefer the wingers to be used?

Bucks kept them wide on attack, which I think is a good idea if you've got damaging wingman, as it really stretches the field, but he played NQRs on the wing, so it probably depends on who he plays on the wing. But with our group I'd play the wingman narrower more like extra mids.

My only issue with people saying Reef and Poulter will be midfielders is their ability to run, my understanding is AFL players that play predominantly as midfielders need to run 15 + kilometres every week at speed. They need to be able to run offensively, defensively and spread at speed, there ain't too many 6 foot 4 guys in the game that have this capacity. Patrick Cripps is the obvious prototype I had in mind but my understanding is that Patrick gets exploited by AFL teams defensively and on the spread, he can't run with the smaller midfielders.

Anyway IMO, I think Poulter and Reef will end up being hybrids, spend time in the middle and time forward or back as that third tall.

Nothing wrong with that and actually provides matchup issues for opposition teams, if our boys are good enough in dual roles it requires opposition teams to put similar hybrids on them or alter their matchups on the fly.

Pretty sure Poulter was in our top 5 for average ground covered per game this year. Tank is only an issue for Reef, but that may be a symptom of being laid up with a back injury in his draft year than a natural lack of endurance.

Do you think that Reef's tank being an issue would make him not ready for AFL right now?

I have no idea what his tank is currently like. I can only assume he’s still behind the other boys in his draft class given his injuries last year, but I’m not going to make statements about whether or not he is or isn’t ready with such little information.

and Not Playing Any Footy in his Draft Year because of Covid would not Helped as well

Reef McInnes

The strong midfielder missed a fair portion of the 2021 season with a syndesmosis injury, but should expect an AFL debut next year with a full summer on the track. The Magpies matched a bid at pick No.23 of the 2020 NAB AFL Draft to secure McInnes, their talented Next Generation Academy prospect. A big-bodied onballer at 193cm, he also has a nice zip to his game and can use his leg speed to impact at stoppages. His size means he can also drift forward and hit the scoreboard, having done so effectively at junior level. - Riley Beveridge

I would of head Nick Daicos ahead of Reed but you think with a Strong Pre-Season that Reef could play RD 1

They can both debut. They'll be playing different positions.

Reefs tank can be built over a few pre seasons and he'll start on the half forward line with some stints through the middle as he builds endurance.
