If Leigh was in his late 30s and/or knew he only had a year or two to go tops, then maybe.

Age is irrelevant.
Leigh left chasing success, just like Karl.

Karl spent 17 or so years in Utah, and then left just like that to join a team of stars, rather than finish a long and distinguish career where he started and created his legend.

Leigh spent 7 years in Geelong, and then left just like that to join a team of stars, rather than finish his career with the team that gave him a chance.

I have no problem with Leigh leaving Geelong in pursuit of a premiership (even if he was horribly misguided), just as i have no problem with Karl leaving Utah in the same pursuit.

Someone's done a U-turn ;)

How so, my dear Watson?

I said he was precious about Utah ribbing him, a wholly different issue.

I then said that getting a ring in LA would be a cheap ring, which it clearly would be.
Doesn't change the fact that he is deserving, nor the fact that he has sacrificed plenty for this chance.

You stated in this thread that you couldn't understand the Malone bashers, yet you criticised him yourself by calling him cheap:

Good on Reggie for staying where he was, but i cannot see why Karl should be criticised for sacrificing the two most important aspects in modern pro sport, in the pursuit of the holy grail.

That's a U-turn, like it or not. Must be a cheap "holy grail".

And as I already stated, Leigh did sell himself short to an extent. If I wasn't a North supporter, there are plenty of players I'd prefer to see him win a premiership before him.

As I am sure Laker fans would like to see Karl win a ring as it means success for their team. You're a Geelong fan, I'm a North fan - ask how many Utah fans would like to see Karl win a ring with the Lakers.

If it's who deserves a ring more individually, of course it's Karl. But I would rather see Reggie win one for the reasons I gave, and if I'm not mistaken the poll and the question asked in the first post of this thread don't match (one says who you'd rather see, the other is about deserving). I was responding to the post about who I personally would rather see win the ring, which is Reggie.

The use of the word 'deserve' in this topic is interesting. A ring goes to members of the championship winning team, neither Reggie or Karl have been apart of a championship winning team, they've been 2nd best sure, but never the best, so really neither to this point has deserved a ring. Though of course you have guys who unlike these 2 (who are 2 of my 5 all time faves) who play 2 minutes a game and get rings on the coattails of guys like Jordan, Duncan and Shaq/Kobe. Guess that's the way of team sports.

Really hope Reggie deserves one this year though :D

Colbert didn't leave for success. He left because he got no respect as captain and because of the way the club treated some of its people

Reggie deserves it more because he's one of the bugger all percent of NBA players who has complete loyalty to his team

Don't need a North apologist to lecture me on Leigh.

Spider left because he was underminded by some senior players, however those players still maintain their right to do so, given Leigh's actions at the time.

I wholly understand why Spider left, it was the best thing to do for all concerned.

However, he did come out and say he left because he wanted to play in a premiership.

I know what he said was only a smokescreen to cover up what really happened, but the bottom line is that he is on the record as saying that he left for success.

BTW Leigh is still my favourite non-Geelong player, love the bloke.
