That's nuts.

A neighbour of mine had 145mm in 45 minutes during the first half of the Freo game we won in 2023. We had a similar amount (over 100mm) and I thought that was the most insane rain ever. Before that 200mm an hour for three or four hours was probably the worst we got. Twice. Actually I dunno how much rain we had in the flood in 2022. Maybe 150-200mm and hour for 24 hours. That one was crazier than anything. In Lismore CBD that 2022 flood hwm was three times higher than the worst one beforehand (cyclone Debbie 2017, the 200mm p/hr for 3 hours one.)

All of those rainstorms were insane. It genuinely felt like the rain would break the roof. (In one of them it did.)

180mm in 20 minutes is nearly twice as heavy as the worst one and three times as heavy as those other floods.
I've never heard of anything like it, seen some beauties in Medellin, but wouldn't come close to 180mm in 20. Maybe 60mm in 20, 180 in 60 type stuff.

Had 80mm in about half an hour about 6 years ago when we had a property in crossover, it washed a fair bit of the gravel away on the lower part of our track. A bloke on the radio yesterday said it washed his private bridge away. Gets expensive when requiring remidual civil works, not to mention the loss of access in the meantime.

Columbia ... everything I've seen of Columbia reminds me of up North of any place I've been in the tropics.

Even 180mm/hr is insane rates of rain. But it was kind of acceptable if it happened once or twice a year every second year or whatever. Once it falls for a day then you get flooding up north.

Colombia, British Columbia (Canada) is more inclined to receive absurd rates of snow.

Best Snow falls I've seen are Snowbird (Utah) and Jackson Hole (Wyoming). Insane amounts of 3+ft in a night. 4WD buried after 2 days type stuff.

Why aren't outback windmills ( windpumps ) used all over? Wind blocked out by buildings and trees?
Wouldn't mind having some in this region.

power been off for 2 hours, no prediction of restoration, everyone hammering the outagetracker, think it was the right call to hook up the generator.

in our experience solar lift pumps are better, cheaper, less moving parts, far more scalable. can run em off ex rooftop panels that are cheap and readily available so much so you can offset a couple and get longer daylight tracking.
, other than occasionally pulling the pump up to clear the inlet screen they literally take zero maintenance.

A brushless pump and controller can be got for under 350 bucks and they will lift to 65 meters. parallel as many as you like up to a common manifold for increased flow and redundancy.

Thank you very much. That would be perfect. 12 hours of sun every day. Usually.

Lovely autumn day but little bit rowdy,

Neighbors below us have a congaline of tipper deliveries, across the road banging in fence posts and up the hill got the chainsaw on the go....

Probobly the day i should have sighted on the 30.06....
