I reckon MMD is having a lend of you
Appreciate the thought Wooljay but you know as well as i do he is a Negative Ned and I'm sick of Collingwood supporters eating their own.
It's been happening for the last 40 years,We should have and could have done this.42 GF's and won 15......Yeah nothing to be proud about. But if we had won half of those would we have such negativity like we have now??

The message to the players is to wrap themselves in metaphorical wool and leave their house/apartment only to attend training and club functions. 'Whatever it is you go on holiday to do, do it indoors or under the direct supervision of the resort's personal trainer.' 'Control of the mind and body will minimise physical harm! No drink, no drugs, with or without Michael Jackson style medical supervision.

If their instincts didn't make them daredevils wanting to put their bodies on the line at every opportunity, then they probably wouldn't be footballers.

That's one thing that's always made me curious about our club - as much as every other supporter base hates Collingwood, nobody's harder on our team than we are.

I remember going to Victoria Park in the early 90's and seeing that it was really bad. I could imagine a lot of Collingwood players from that era developed masochistic tendencies, and probably now spend their Tuesday nights tied to a rack at the Hellfire Club. Imagine Monkey in a gimp costume - there's a nice little image for you.

I do suspect it's gotten better, although it's rare I get to go to home games these days.

Might be a good thread topic? I'll start one.

This is not good. I hope Reids injury doesnt turn out like Didaks where he lost confidence due to his injury. Didak spent his season protecting his torn pec muscle from further injury and as a result his form was below par.

Im expecting big things from Reid this year, the mans a gun. :thumbsu:

When I heard about the Injury. Didak's last season and how it went

Ross 'twiggy' Dunne back in the 70's was a great center half forward despite his lack of a body, until he broke his thumb. He was out for 7 weeks as I recall, but never again was he as good as the pre-broken thumb player.

Being a Negative Ned, I am going to suggest that Reid's shoulder may be the Twiggy Dunne thumb of his career. Perhaps Reid over-imbibed in Thailand's spiritual offerings or took the family beach cricket too seriously, or a mixture of both the above or neither at all. Whatever the cause, Reid becomes a notorious fumbler overhead.

Into the CHB spot steps Nathan Brown and plays every match like he did against Riewoldt in the GFs. No need for Reid, and wouldn't you know it, Keefe turns out to be a champion CHB as well, so we have an embarassment of riches.

At the end of 2012, Reid wants to be a Sydney bookend with his brother as the other one, but he is never again the same player around and above the shoulders at his new club.

In return for Reid we get Mumford who wants to go back home and all ends happily. And to compound our joy, Mitch Brown joins his brother to create brotherly bookends at the Pies.

Do you Actually Belive That?

There is nothing too that Story Accept there Mum saying she Prefers the Swans to us.

Last Time I checked Ben is not his Mum or Lives with her so she would not have a massive barring on his Decisions he makes

Come on MMD many people won't pick up on the sarcasm dripping from that post. Its all good to have a lend, but there are posters that will read that and start second guessing things. So just be mindful of that...

To be frank, I am just a little bit concerned that we may lose Ben Reid. Sam Reid signed for 5 years with Sydney, while Ben is signed for only one more year with us.

As TD stated, Ben's mum prefers Sydney because of the way the club looks after families. Ben has stated that he would love to play with his brother. The only way that is now possible is if he heads north to join him or perhaps GWS as 2nd choice.

Did Ben actually sign for only one year or is this the last year of an existing contract? If this is the final year of a contract then there is probably a much greater chance that he will re-sign with us. If like Pendlebury he only signed for a year then I would be concerned.

Mind you, unless Sydney finish near the bottom, they probably don't have so much chance to pick him up, unless they can come to a deal with us.

I know no more about this than TD or anyone else who read the relevant thread on the AFL board.

I think we're all concerned about losing players because unfortunately with the current market and make up of our list its inevitable that we will lose one at the end of 2012. My only hope is that its a more low profile player such as Wellingham or Blair.

Ben signed a 2 year deal mid way through 2010 so is in line for a significant pay increase because he is probably only on $150,000 per annum atm. I'd say he'll re-sign with us at below market rate because I think with Tarrant nearing the end the club will look after him as much as they can, but probably not to the extent of what he's actually worth.

My guess is that the next deal will be another 2 year one that expires at the end of 2014, which happens to coincide with him becoming a free agent. That's when we need to start getting concerned. We'll be getting towards the end of our premiership window (if we can stay up that long it'll be our 5th season at the top starting in 2010) and others like GWS and GC will be entering their prime.

Sydney will be up there this year. They have a couple of dead set guns to build around (Mumford and Goodes) plus a very handy support cast in O'Keefe, Kennedy, Reid, Hannebury, McVeigh, Grundy, Richards, McGlynn, Jack and Bolton. So we don't need to be too concerned with losing him through the pre-season draft and I doubt very much that they'll offer us a dream trade i.e Rohan and Johnson for Reid.

IMO we're safe from GWS. Unfortunately for them and luckily for the rest of the comp the calibre of signing in 2011 suggests that they won't be able to attract the A+ players they really need. I'd expect players the likes of Wellingham, Russell (Carlton), Bruest and Bastinac to be their go. Basically players that will do a job for you, but not really the type you can build a side around.

To get back on topic the injury is obviously an annoyance, however Reid played the majority of 2011 with a similar injury after sublaxing his shoulder pretty badly against Richmond early last year. TBH I was surprised he didn't have a clean out at the end of the season due to that injury, which hopefully means he has relatively stable shoulders.

So while it may affect his ability to further increase chest and shoulder strength (which he doesn't need anyway just by looking at him) he'll still be able to do much of the running and hopefully build on his legs and core, which have tended to stay on the skinny side since he was drafted.

The only way we'll lose Reid is a trade to Sydney, seems very unlikely. If we do agree to a trade though we will no doubt get something very good from it so its not concerning at all.

Hopefully GWS take wellingham / goldsack but who knows, lets not worry about it

Fairly obvious that this is a plot to scare other teams away from signing up an "injury-prone" Bruce up to a hefty long term contract.

Ed to Reid: Here's a ticket to Phuket. Knock yourself out.

4 days later, Ed to H-S journo: Reid did something to his shoulder. Not sure what.

H-S journo writes story.

Reid in Phuket: WTF? I'm fine.

17 other clubs: Uh-oh.

Good work, club.

:thumbsu:;)

BAH. not worth speculating on

Nor worrying about.

What will happen will happen.

Best way to keep a player is to win another flag, and that way at least if he goes he knows he is leaving a dual premiership club with the prospect for more. It will be very hard for a player to want to walk in those circumstances, and if he does, we all know it will be for the money.
If Geelong can win a flag without Ablett, we can win a flag without anybody who walks away from us.

Lets just win a premiership this year and worry about everuything else down the track.

Can we put this in big bold letters at the start of every thread or something!

We may lose someone to GWS but it is far from certain and if we do as long as we get adequate compo it's ok - although we probably can't replace a Pendlebury. In any case, lets just win flags. We have the side and let's not F. it up this time. If it doesn't aid the flag cause it is secondary at the moment.
