Come on guys, lets not start getting like Carlscum/ Richmond supporters and head hunt our own after 1 game. We held with them for 3 qtrs, and were outplayed in the last qtr. As a matter of fact, we lost the game in the second qtr by allowing them to kick 7 goals. Not good enough.

But thats the players issue, not mick's, and it's only round 1- WE'LL GET BETTER. Be proud of the performance- we went OK considering where Adelaide are heading, and where we as a footy club and our list is at. Mick, although i feel is the right man for the job and to lead us in the future (he got us to 2 grannies with an average at best team), did make a few mistakes, eg: Playing udnerdone players- Rocca, and Trav in our foward line. both have had fairly interrupted pre seasons/ seasons from last year as a result of injuries inflicted on them over the past 12 months. But, mick is human, and he makes mistakes, as we all do.

We are the greatest sporting club in the world with the greatest supporters in the world. We are the most loyal and lving followers of our sporting club than any other. Let's continue to set the example for the competition on this site for the best supporters in Australia- which we have done for years. let's not sink to the level of other sides supporters and lambast their team after one heartache. This seaosn will be full of positives- and one is this week comming!

Not even win as much as improve.
Then mission accomplished.

2005 - 100+ points
2006 - 34 points

There were many improved things about our team last night, the least of which is not the debut of Dale Thomas and the continued improvement in play of guys like Ryan Lonie and Dane Swan.

However, we were let down by a majority of the players that most would consider to be in our top 10.

About 10 of our players had only 10 disposals or less, just not good enough.

I think

2005 - 6 + points (Home)
2005 - 100+ points (Away)
2006 - 34 points (Home)
2005 - ??? + points (Away)

Actually debatable. Cant ever recall a quarter in which we havent scored.

Why cant the players spend a whole week of training kicking a ball to each other so they know how to do it. Better than going to Alaska or were ever they went walking up mountains.

lol yeah i know, well hopefully they do that this week that would be great, definitly really, MUST improve in kicking accurately especially when under some pressure, but also when not under pressure. need to get the basics right

i really have no overriding opinion of the adelaide game, bits i liked, bits i didnt. the overriding signal of how these guys are going and potentially will go, is the game this sunday. this'll be the week to take things from i reckon. besides, most of the opinion ive heard, and forgive me if ive only heard selective stuff, is that adelaide were the better side, adelaide played very boring footy, and that we were encouraging and we look better already. leave the soapboxes packed away until next monday after the hawks game

If we kicked 6 goals to none in the last quarter instead of Adelaide and still lost by 6 goals, people would be saying we kicked those goals in junk time.
A lot of Adelaide's goals were in junk time in 4th quarter, although they shouldn't of been kicked at all.
It's amazing how a 6 goal loss (the real margin should of been aobut 3) after really taking it to a team that are the premiership favorites for 3 quarters can make us think. If this was the same game in round 7 and Adelaide had won 5 from 6, I think we would be happy with our effort.

I've just rewatched the game for the second time...if you assume that Adelaide are a supremely fit side that is "up" at the moment and we purely ran out of legs in the last...there are some real positives to the game.

Thomas obviously, his 1st quarter, his running through the lines, him taking on Mcleod in the 3rd and winning, he is a seriously exciting player.

Fraser was great, excellent ruckwork, plenty of work around the ground, tackles, hard ball gets, welcome back Josh.

O'Bree will not and cant be dropped, he got a lot of hard ball and used it "most" times. Quite a few of Swan, Licca, Roids possessions were a bit junkish, but at least they got it.

Out tackling in the first 3 quarters was excellent. We were spent in the last, everything fell away but we will improve.

Getting nothing out of Taz and Rocca, one of them will produce the goods most games this season. Taz was double teamed by Basset and Hart for most of the night (forward of the wing, Hart would run off and make himself a target, when it hit Collingwoods side, he would drop back to Taz, this was before he went onto Thomas). Rocca copped an AA backman in his first game back from a long ijury. I would forgive him for this game.

I thought Lonies game was a vast improvement. He really is a good user with a little time, under pressure he can be suspect. But he is a receiver, nothing more. If we treat him as such and expect it, then all will be good. He ran with Burton in the second half and did a good job.

Bucks was Bucks. Superior in every sense.

We lost our AA, BF general in the bacline halfway through the last quarter. Just after this things started to go pear shaped. Dids provided a couple just after this but then Adelaide took the sting out of the game and with that, all our momentum. Congrats to them to be able to do that.

Our "play-on" gameplan from forward of the wing. It provided most of our goals as our forward targets were missing. I dunno if this is a Carey introduction but it looked good til Adelaide worked it out.

On the negative, Richards is not ready Cam, or Fanning need to be used as relief for now. Josh was awesome but cant ruck all day.

Leon was ordinary, maybe 2 flashes of brilliance and the rest of the game he spent thinking of WA

J-clo can still only be used and a bash and crash spoiling backmen. His attempt to run with Burton was laughable in the end. He was totally spent as was his brother by half time.

Sorry for the long boring post, but after watching the game on tape after being there, I think there is reason for optimism.

I thought O'Bree was clearly our best IMO and probably the biggest positive.
He not only found it and was everywhere but he cleared it quickly and disposed of it cleanly. Apart from one or two instances he did not revert to his usual "lollypop kicks" that has been his criticism. He directed the ball forward and tried to do as much damage as possible with his possesions. He was our most efficient user of the ball, even Buckley at times was too conservative.

Obes was the only player I swung votes in the BigFooty MVP.

8 tackles, plus a truckload of other pressures in the guts, resulting in clearances our way, and more importantly, stopping clean movement of Adelaide's slick midfield.

I personally think that we may have maintained that pressure further than halfway through the last, but we needed a spur on. Didak should have gobbled that mark in the last. After then we just "gave up" (quote courtesy of Ryan Griffen).
