I’m not too harsh on him because he’s only a three game player but Duursma was in a straight out 50/50 with Charlie Cameron just out of the goal square on asat night . Charlie grabbed the ball harder , picked it up and snapped the goal . Not to single out Duursma but it as a good example of what you want to see to be classed as reliable . Someone that wi s 50/50 balls .

Duursma is a bombscare. I'm not sure why I seem to be the only poster on this board who can see it.

Well we had Darcy kicking from half back straight back to them after a mark . Robbie G even went back into defence and coughed one up and missing easy st shots , Welty is not reliable shooting for goal .
Burton looks pretty reliable , Houston , he’s reliable Rozee looking that way early . Jonas is nearly reliable but perhaps not quite . Boak this year . Dam Lycett is looking pretty reliable, super impressed with him , I didn’t think he was this good , some of his handballs are great , the right option and all .
Ryder’s pretty reliable .
Clurey this year .
But I think yea like the good old Magpie teams , they were reliable because they were indoctrinated to win the 50/50 balls no excuses

Monfries, Schulz, Wingard, Bobby Carlile, wait a second...

In all seriousness, players go up and down on reliability throughout their careers. I thought DBJ was one of our most consistent performers over the past few years but he's looked a bit rusty so far this season. Boak wasn't always able to perform consistently during 2016-2018 (although he was played out of position mind you) but this year he looks like his 2013/14 self again. Jonas was talked about in the delistings in 2016 but has been huge in the 3 years since. Clurey has really grown into his own recently. Robbie Gray has rarely put a foot wrong since 2013 but had a bit of a stinker last night. Don't think you can write him off after one game, but he isn't getting any younger. Lycett and Burton are looking like gun recruits on that front right now, and glad Dan Houston is getting a lot of love in this thread because he is really up there with the most underrated players in the comp.

Schulz became a very reliable player. Ironically his least reliable performance was in the 2014 prelim when his goal accuracy deserted him.

You could hardly ever question his effort, determination or ability to get the best out of himself. He had a job to do and for the most part he did it as well as you could ask of him.

Put Schulz in his prime in our forward line these past two years and we are a very different proposition.

I miss that man so much.

When you rate players, you always look at the 3 “s”es- speed, strength and skill.

But what people overlook is reliability. It may be a bit harsh to use him as an example but consider Wingard. His best is A class, maybe A+. But at Port after 2014 he produced A games about 1 in 4. So he wasn’t an A grader.

This is also the most frequent drafting error. It’s important to know what level of performance a draftee can produce but it is more important to know how often he can produce it.

Our most reliable are Jonas, Ryder, Houston- you know what you’ll get with theses guys.
