The sooking quotent is much higher these days completely agree. The phrase suck it up and get over it is sadly fading from the vernacular.

Go Catters
You might like to watch "Chopper Read" from The Ronnie Johns Good Times Campfire Jamboree Half Hour Show (Now on Television)- as he tells Australia to "Harden the F Up"! ;)

When I think back to 1994, it kind of irks me that since we lost the GF, we seem to concede in hindsight that it was somewhat inevitable. My memories of the game were that we were up at quarter time, Wills had run around Worsfold to kick a goal from the boundary, Ablett had bowled over Jakovich with ball in hand, and everything was going ok. It all fell apart after that. It's only in hindsight that people write the story of how they were so much better, as we seem to say about Carlton in 1995. That's not to say those opposition teams weren't better on balance, just that history shows us never to expect or assume a result in any game. Just a shame we couldn't have put up a better show. We had some really good victories against the Eagles in 92, 93, 95, 96....just none at exactly the right time :(

I've never been to a game - not now, not ever - where I couldn't tell which team was which. No matter what the conditions.
Did you watch that Carlton vs Port Adelaide game from a couple of years ago on tv?

Agree people are getting precious, but that game did have a shocking clash.

1994

Ablett kicking his 100th against North at Princes Park, running on the ground. Running back off, I ran into some bloke - I was a skinny kid and luckily just managed to bounce off and keep running. Was very excited.

That '94 Prelim - up until then the greatest atmosphere at a game I'd been to. What a game. Blight shaking Riccardi in the QT huddle, McGrath getting toweled up by Carey early, only to be put back on him later in the game and do a pretty good job.

Semi against Carlton. Aaron Lord and Liam Pickering stepping up to the plate big time. Greg Williams giving the umpire the bird and consequently 50m.

QF against Bulldogs - my first ever night game at the G. (I had been to pre-season night games at Waverly before)

Lining up for GF tickets at the Arena, with sleeping bags and all. Missed out. Probably a good thing in the end.

I think it was the first year of 'Dream Team' - a comp run by The Age. You had to fill out a form on paper and mail it in a stamped envelope to enter. I actually made the paper for getting in the top 10 or something one week. Wow, I think I can even remember my team name....

Ablett's mark over Pert. I too was in the Olympic stand, but a bit higher up I think. I remember they showed several replays on the big screen, from a different camera angle that they never showed later on tv - made it look even better.

Also I was about the age where I could get in for a child price ($1) but would get out with an adult pass out. Me and cousin/brother would get the pass outs and sell them for five bucks to people coming in the ground and pay the buck to get back in. Repeat until we had enough for some fish and chips or something. Ahhh those were the days....

Well said. For whatever reason, culturally and historically, Geelong supporters have never had any trouble with being nice and coming second. Excuses are really easy to find if you look hard enough.

I'll accept that Hawthorn were a better team over the home and away season in 1989 - 19 wins to 16 wins for us. But we still could have beaten them. I don't accept that West Coast were that much (or any better) in 1992. 1994 West Coast weren't the best side, neither were we, but for whatever reason we matched up very well that year on North (a better side than either, but we beat them 3 times that year). And in 1995, again Carlton were beaten over the home and away season, but we pushed them all the way in the one meeting during the season, and had perfect preparation in September (it was the only year of the 4 losing grand finals that we actually had the week off).

That may well be the case, but really who cares. So long as the club and the players have a win at all costs attitude, I couldn't care less what our supporters say before or after the fact. That's not to say I don't appreciate the banter in here, but really we are just supporters and what does it matter what we say.

And if you look at our results over the past 10 years, I'd say we're travelling pretty well winning tonnes of games and 3 flags along the way.

Paid $5 for a standing room ticket to the '84 GF with some mates, directly behind the city end goals - would have had more fun buying a few Eskimo Pies, a packet of Wizz-Fizz and the latest High Society.

One memory I have of 1994 is the councils decision to do some 'gardening' on the main oval during September. It lead to the farcical situation of players having to do their training on St Mary's oval. I'm sure that the grand final training session was the biggest crowd that that ground has ever seen. I also believe that caused Mark Bairstow's injury.
