2002 was my first trip over to Kardinia Park from Perth, saw the Cats beat the Weagles with a couple of West Coast supporters (win 5 in the 7 streak I think). Then first trip to AAMI to see Adelaide lose to the Pies in the same weekend.
Back to Melbourne the next weekend for my first game at the 'G, saw the mighty Cats beat the Pies, and the Nathan Buckley incident where he wiped his blood on Ling happened almost right in front of us. Then up to Sydney for my first game at the SCG, with the narrow loss to Port.
Back down to Melbourne the next weekend for my first game at the Dome, Cats beat Bombers, in the last game of that streak.
Got into the clubrooms after that game and met most of the team, which was freaking awesome, despite how much I'd drunk in celebration.

Sometimes I blame myself for the resultant end to the season. Was it something I did, could I have done anything different? Why did I have to ask KK to win the Coleman for me?

Watched that game again last night. Was amazing how classy Kelly looked in what was his 6th game of footy that night.

Moons was pretty dominant in the first quarter too. Very lively in the forward line, and was actually kicking straight too. Dobbed a beautiful goal from 40m out on the boundary at one stage.

As said elsewhere, Kelly was our best mid out of all our recruits before his broken leg, and is close again now that Ablett has gone.

Even though we didn't make finals, 2002 was a very memorable year! I remember going to the G when we bear the Pies, and Buckley smeared blood on Lings jumper! I went mental!

I just recently found my Yr 12 school diary from that year, and each week I had glued the score & stats sheet from the paper into it! It was bloody entertaining looking back on the different stats from then, and reading all my gushing comments of love for little Gaz & Jimmy Bartel!

In fact, 2002 was the year I bet my mate $100 that Geelong would win a flag by 2009 and another $100 that Gary Ablett would win a brownlow by 2009!

Classic bet! I was CONVINCED I was gonna get the double in 07, but sadly had to wait another 2 years to collect on the Brownlow!
