Who remembers the Scarf/Seat rule?

Getting in early, draping a scarf or 2 over 5-10 great seats then heading to the pub for a few hours, come back and seats would still be there untouched and the bay completely full of people.

Worst rule! Entire front row always gone. How can you show support of you can't bang wildly on the boards?

I remember collecting cans all game from under the wooden bench seats at Waverley, like some South Australian peasant.

Must have been some school collection thing.

I remember as a kid going to Kardinia Park once and being amazed at how little the kids got for an enormous bag of cans. 5c per can gave the kids a much better hourly rate over here.

Remember sneaking a look over the blokes shoulder in front to try and find out who d vs f was on the scoreboard? f is coming back!!

I actually do look back on this fondly. Made buying a record worthwhile.
I also remember scoffing because the price for the record went up to $5 during the finals one year and so never bought a record again...

I'd watch the twos and see number 57 do something good, I'd ask the old lady ahead with the record who was that?

Next minute she's offering me a stras and sauce sandwich

Blokes setting up a BBQ near the street fence at Waverley and selling snags to locals walking home. Being over the moon when dad said I could have one.

I lived out that way in its last few years. Did you go to the last game there? Everyone turning into a feral looter at the siren was hilarious. We took home a slab of turf about a foot long and 3 inches wide and deep and stored it in the fridge. I think mum must have thrown it out one day because it mysteriously disappeared.

Maybe she had a health kick and wanted waverly grass shots

Yeah was there. That was a mental day.

It really was a shithole of a stadium, but jeez it was cool having AFL footy right there.
