Reading on the SHEagles Facebook that the venue may change pending weather, decision to be made by 10am tomorrow.

Do you have any idea where the new venue could possibly be? Blacktown or even Bruce Purser?

EDIT: Just saw the link, Blacktown 2pm IF they decide to move it.

I'd be surprised if one of Morton, Walsh, White and Spangher aren't playing seniors next week.
Keep in mind the opposition today was absolute pants.

It's very frustrating that TDL can't replicate what he does in the reserves into the seniors. Some of it is attributable to the big gulf in class between the NEAFL and the AFL, but a lot of it seems psychological too. Trent didn't look comfortable out there and seemed to be second guessing himself instead of letting his natural instincts dictate his actions

The defensive effort of TDL in the reserves is multiples of what Morton puts up so I'm not confident at all in bringing Morton in

As a sidenote I finally figured out why Morton gets on my nerves and hence my bad books so often. He'll take a mark within shooting distance and I'll start writing a tweet describing the action that preceded it but before I'm halfway through I hear some cheers and applause, look up and I discover that he's played on gone round the corner kick for the goal. FFS MITCH GO BACK DO THE DROP PUNT AND GIVE THIS TWEETER (TWITTERER?) A CHANCE

The main difference between the two grades is body size. TDL just gets brushed aside in the seniors. He only needs to be moved a little off his line & his opponent is away. There is no room for his type of body in senior football anymore with Jetta's speed the only thing that gives him the thumbs up. Another factor is that TDL is a leading & marking forward. In the seniors, all the holes in front of him are often plugged up. Another factor is that in the twos he is one of the main go to men. In the seniors he becomes 3rd or 4th option leaving him with less opportunities. He just isn't the type of player to create his own goals from nowhere like a Jack, McGlynn, Jetta, Bolton or Bird.
Which leads me to some one else who can create something from nothing. Mitch Morton.
Mitch Morton at least has body size, I'll give him that & he also has some footy smarts that a Jesse White doesn't have.
I must finally give in............................it's time to bring in Morton because I think he can be good for 2 or 3 goals a game.
So what if he takes the shot himself instead of giving it off occassionally. So what if he should miss occassionally.
He would have been handy taking shots at goals which ever way he wanted to last night because some of our more respected & senior players in better positions could not hit the target.
Time to give him a go now. That's why we recruited him. For that X factor.
The finals start in two weeks. Play him in the final 3 rounds.
Spagher can be a back up for LRT.

I'd also like to add that he reminds me of Craig O'Brien that did a wonderfull job alongside Plugger. I believe if given the chance, he will grab it like his life depended on it. Think about it. A finals forward line of an in form Morton, Reid, Goodes, McGlynn, LRT & hopefull Jude who can give a chop out in the midfield. Geez we missed Jude last night.

I can see it now.
The Swans singing the song next week with Mitch getting drowned with Powerade after his first game & win for the club.
Sorry if I've made some of you sick.

Chins up. We are still on top after round 19 & we couldn't have played worse.
The grounds are generally dry in September.......................& Speed kills!

Disagree, there are big bodies in the NEAFL too, they're not playing in an U18s competition.
True but They haven't got the smarts of an AFL senior defence that give each other a chop out. The two divisions are chalk & cheese.
We often have 40 - 45 or so shots at goal against some of our opponents in this league. This is bound to put opposition defences under pressure giving TDL plenty of opportunities to score. Opportunities that he just wouldn't get a fraction of in the seniors.

I take your point, but it doesn't explain his lack of effort at times. Whether you're tackling Harry O'Brien or Joe Schmo from Hills Eagles you have to show the same intent and desire both times.

Replace TDL with Morton

You can make it with the body size but you have to create space. You have to have the football smarts, the work ethic and the skill execution to make it all happen. I dont think it's the skille execution in TDL's case so it's one of the other two.

Last night he struggled to put it all together under the intensity.

Replace TDL with Morton
I agree Grim!

By the way Grim, I've probably not mentioned it on here before but I make it a habit of looking too see what you have to say about the ressies after a game on the week end. Very knowledgable & professional Grim. Which means I should pull my head in & not even attempt to question you on anything ressies.;)
Thanks!

Morton can take a contested mark though.
Debatable but that's not really the issue is it?

Although if it's just the defensive measure that's main issue then Longmire should think long and hard about Nathan Gordon though. He's less than a goal threat than TDL and Morton but one aspect of his game that is never lacking is his effort, even to the point where he too reckless through his overzealousness. He would definitely tackle and chase all day if he's asked to and not worry about kicking goals.

I think it is. It makes Morton a more versatile player, a player more likely to succeed at senior level than TDL. He's more capable of winning his own ball in the air, which TDL has shown he struggles with. TDL relies on finding space, something that is very difficult to do in modern football, whereas Morton makes his own space. TDL can take contested marks against the physically weaker NEAFL opponents (and make no mistake, while they may be similar sizes, they are nowhere near the strength of AFL defenders), Morton can take contested marks against AFL opponents (as he's shown in the past). Basically, it means that you can't just replace the name TDL with Morton and the criticism will hold true, because they are different players with different attributes, and therefore different criticisms must apply.

I'm tempted to agree. I like Nipper as a medium forward. Good pair of hands, good leap, and tries his bloody heart out.

And thats always been his problem, great kid , gun state level player and good luck to him

Hmm thought I posted my report on Sunday, but obviously not. So here goes:

Not a comprehensive report this week, half my brain was frozen due to the winds and chill and the other half subconsciously switched off when the Hills Eagles put up little resistance in the first quarter and we kicked the first 8 goals straight before they even had an inside 50. They were much better after quarter time, no doubt after a bake from their coach but were still well outclassed by the Swans who to their credit kept playing to their structures despite the gulf between the two sides.

  • Walsh played out of the goalsquare at FF with Spangher CHF and Morton patrolling the half forward area. Walsh was dominant early and had 5 on the board at half time. Spangher replicated Walsh's effort in the second half and had 3 in a purple patch in the 3rd quarter. Walsh was again a reliable leading target in the forward half taking many marks on the lead, while Spangher won more of his marks through strength in holding his ground and outmuscling his man. They were both really good but the standard of opposition must be taken into account as well as the fact that their defenders weren't as big as Walsh and Spangher.
  • Morton did his usual damage on the scoreboard but it was noticeable he was playing a little further up the ground instead of his usual position camped deep in the forward 50. He even managed to contest a few centre bounces near the end.
  • Gordon started in a different role, in deep defence on one of their better players in Ross Tungatalum. However when it was clear that the Eagles were struggling to get the ball up to Tungatalum, he played loose man in defence for a while as the coaches were comfortable enough in letting a topup mark Tungatalum instead. Gordon moved up the ground later on.
  • Lamb played a lot more in the midfield than in the previous week and was effective in the clearances by getting first hands on the ball thanks to White's ruckwork. He's starting to show the skills and endeavour that were sorely missing earlier this season and why he was our first selection in the draft 3 years ago. But I think he has to back these kinds of games up a few time before he gets considered for a senior berth. Meredith also played mostly in the midfield and not as much in defence. Again he was solid without being dominant, just doing enough at this level to get by without ever starring.
  • White again rucked most of the game and kicked a monster goal from 50, Spangher and Walsh took some of the forward 50 throw-ins but not much else. It may be premature to wonder whether we've seen the last of him as a pure forward because of the lack of other ruck options in the reserves side at the moment but his contributions in the past few weeks as ruckman dwarf the games he's played as a key forward.
  • Brown not too many touches but again I like what I've seen of him. Perhaps it's the fact that he had no pre-season and is only starting to feel comfortable being in the team but it feels like he's happy to do what's required, leaving the more experienced players to lead the way. I feel he would respond if asked to undertake more responsibility perhaps some run and carry from defence instead of just kicking it (which is an excellent part of his game btw). In any case I definitely like what we've picked up with another late draft pick.
  • Of the topups I thought Plug (#54) was the standout with Robinson (#51) also very good. Plug has some skills and plays with a bit of flair as well, Robinson has been a topup for a few years and his experience showed, used all round the ground including a stint near the end in the midfield. Thurgarland (#56) on the wing and Roebuck (#50) in defence were solid as well. Heeney (#55), Roos (#53), Sertbas (#58), Wray (#52) and Jack (#57) were the others as listed on the scoreboard (yay for ANZ)

That was the last home reserves game for the year (sob) with the Ressies rounding off the regular season next week going to Brisbane to play the Lions Reserves. The NEAFL finals series starts next week. Queanbeyan's win against Eastlake yesterday has basically assured them of the minor premiership as they face bottom side Tuggeranong in the last round, the Hawks having only won 1 game the whole year so an upset is very unlikely. However I don't think the Swans will be too perturbed at not finishing top of the ladder as with the new Top 5 Finals system , the minor premiers get the first week of the finals off which would be detrimental to chances of any of the fringe players hoping to break into the side as the AFL Finals approaches.
