Watched the ressies highlights on the swans site last night. Couldn't make out the number, but was that Morton taking all the high overhead grabs in the forward 50?

Whoever it was had nice hands, and a really good overhead reach.

I would love a national reserves comp, watching the ressies before the seniors is tradition and still shits me how they stopped, would be hard to implement now with all the AFL reserve teams being so entrenched in their respective state league. Less so for WAFL and SANFL but would have a pretty big impact on the VFL and NSW/Queensland football leagues.

THE statistics hit you right between the eyes.

Forty-two disposals, six marks and a goal. All in only 70 minutes - little more than a half of football.

These are the stunning numbers Champion Data last weekend credited to Tom Mitchell, the 18-year-old son of Barry, in his third game for the Swans reserves in the North East Australian Football League.

Included in the haul was 21 contested possessions and 13 clearances, equating to a monster 174 SuperCoach points.

I really hope Mitchell builds up his match fitness quickly as those performances are so dominant that he would be getting very little out of playing in the reserves. In order to improve as a player Mitchell really needs to be playing in the AFL.

I reckon Mitchell when fit will step straight up to senior level. If a midfielder gets injured, it might be tough to get back into the team.

Those figures tend to indicate he is indeed a true inside / outside player.

Very exciting. If he stays injury free, I find it hard to believe he won't be in our best 22 by the end of the season.

If he keeps up that kind of form, he will get a game sooner rather than later (once the docs approve it / he has enough fitness under his belt).

It certainly isn't a form issue in regards to why Mitchell is not in the team. As soon as he is capable of running out a 120 minute game of football i think he will be in the first team very very quickly.

If we are to threaten in finals, then Mitchell is part of our first 18.
He'll follow the same path as Parker once he understands the gameplan.
That will be sooner rather than later because he is a smart kid.

How can you make that observation now given he has barely played in the 2's and hasn't played a senior game yet? Seems a bit of a leap of faith.

I think if the football gods could guarentee the Swans will have no injuries in todays game Mitchell would be in the team as a sub where he could play in the last quarter.

No one has dominated the reserves competition so quickly since Hannebery who essentially demanded a spot in the first team when originally Roos had no intention of playing him in the first team in his first year.

That is true and a good point about Hanners and it seems Mitchell is dominating at a similar level but Hanners was brought into a pretty poor team in 2009. Our first finals-missing side since 2002.

Mitchell will have to gain a lot of fitness (he's clearly nowhere near it yet) and prove over and over again that he is worthy. It will take a while I think, unless the seniors start losing badly for a while.

i've watched him as a kid playing at Ashburton Redbacks & followed his career with interest.

He's smart. . . . . .& he wins the ball plenty.

I think tonight we showed that we don't have as great a team as many think.
Mitchell will play soon. He belongs!
