Been running a 24" monitor for > 1 year now with no problems.

All of a sudden a few days ago, the resolution inexplicably shrank to 1024 x 768 - and if I go into Display that's supposedly the highest resolution available.

Running Win 7, graphics card is recognized and drivers up to date. Any ideas?

Thats a driver issue by the sounds of it. W7 normally updates the latest drivers for nvidia and ati automatically so I would run an update first.
Failing that, go to your video card web site and download the latest drivers that way..

Cheers mate, but already tried both. I was hoping someone knew how to force the resolution manually?

Tried just a standard Restore to the last time you remember it being the correct reso?

Have you tried Windows Update again?
Does it show the video card as an update??

MDC.
Do you have multiple input options to the monitor. ie. can it run on DVI, HDMI, Analog, digital etc?

Also the Restore option is a good one.

OK, so I worked out that there was a problem with the actual connection, either in the output of the graphics card or the monitor itself. Switched to a monitor that uses the smaller (blue) connect, and all is now well.

Thx to all who chimed in.
