Should we go 3 games plus percentage into round 17, I think you'll see the Cats resting anyone who isn't 100%. If someone was carrying an injury and only 80% fit like a Judd or Barry Hall on the list, rest up and get ready for proper footy - September style.

Some might view this as the height of arrogance but the fact remains 3 wins from 6 will ensure top spot (short of us losing our +42% on the pack). Once secured focus should be on getting the players fit (injuries & matchfitness being the balancing act), the gameplan in place and putting together a real shot at the finals.

I know, it's a tough balancing act. You wonder thought about guys like Bartel who go in hard, whether one week off would be a great break for their bodies.

Selwood who loves to tackle the biggest opponents that he can find could be another one who could (maybe) use a 14 day break between games.

But the point is most of our guys are currently fit. Except maybe Scarlo (but he should be right soon).

I sympathize with the poor guy. I have the damn flu too.

No...

If players are under 100% fit, then rest them. We can afford to. If they are 100%, they are paid to play Football. So thats what they will do.

Our main players are not showing any effects that they are tired anyway.. Why do we need to rest them?

I dont really see why this should be an issue. If a player has got an injury worry, I've felt this season we have had little hesistation to not let them play. The only issue when it comes to resting players is if u r pushing a player with an injury niggle which I dont believe we're doing.

Couldn't have said it any better. Why upset a team hat is going so well.

I think it's too early to even consider this sort of stuff. Issues of injury and form will be reviewed to check player progress and monitor potential areas for improvement after each game.
I say drop the crystal ball stuff and let's consider this when we get there.

just my 2 cents

If a player has the slightest doubt on him , rest him . But other than that let them play. We may be sitting comfortable at the moment but that would be a huge mistake to rest players for the hell of it. In the case of Wocjinski, he should be pretty much ok this week but if there is any doubt at all then give him a rest.

Cats2Rise makes a good point that our 'stars' are not showin any signs of slowing down.

In many cases, resting players has an adverse affect on their performance.

You wouldn't rest a batsman if he was averaging 60 for the series, would you?

The game against the Bulldogs was one of the best I've seen Geelong play this year, if not the best. That is a sign that they are not tiring at all, and if anything are just building themselves up.

I don't think that 'resting' stars is a good idea - it sends the wrong message to the rest of the team and the opposition. On the other hand, Geelong can afford to be cautious.

I'm pretty sure that Scarlett would have played on Friday if we were fighting to make the 8 rather than well clear on top of the ladder.

Yeah I thought for a while Bartel needed a break but 38 possessions indicates otherwise. Mooney probably could do with a break to get his hamstring right and Wojak might need a week to get over the corked knee.

I don't know about that. Look at the policy this season, more often than not if players have been injured they've been pulled from the team. Nathan Ablett against Melbourne for example - I'm sure he could have played, but they took the safe (and correct) option. Harley is our captain - he was made to come back through the twos. I think they've got the balance pretty right at present.

I wouldn't think about resting players if fit, you don't flirt with winning form. How often do we win 11 in a row?

they don't necessarily have to be rested on the weekend

it would seem that an easier training schedule could give them a rest while still playing on the weekend and maintaining match fitness

the resting of younger players (1st and 2nd year) and players with niggles should be the only policy.

I doubt the likes of Bartel and Ablett jnr would be impressed if they were given a week off to freshen up considering that that could be the difference in winning the chaz.

In theory, yes. But Adelaide did a similar thing last year and that didn't seem to work.

Hard to prove though, I guess.

interesting situation...
seriously i would rest bomber this week when he went off we just looked tad flat and he is soooo important to us its unbeleivable! Get his knee 100% and go from there. secondly, give moons a spell we dont need him doin his hammy this time of the year! Play king and nath up forward and we should be fine:)

In a word no. If Ottens has never made it as a forward King has done even less. Mooney might be carrying a slight niggle - and lots of players do - but he's doing the job. Could not contemplate dropping him as he is the only one of our key forwards performing. Unbelievably important to the team.

Cant agree more!
However wouldnt you rather leave him at home then play him and tear his hammy! We cant risk our stars we have nothing to gain and everything to lose IMO with cam....

well that would be part of the training regime anyway....build and taper they cal it. I think our fitness guys have shown they know what they are doing this year. Better than us that is for sure. Let them do their job.
