Clubs like Pisa, Catania, Messina, Ternana and Taranto (with the exception of the last, all have been in Serie A at one time or another) all went through that but have climbed their way back up.

Were any of those teams as big as Fiorentina was, though?

Never a calm moment for me with Carlo in the box I'm afraid. A more than capable backup but I wouldn't want him to have the no. 1 shirt full time. I presume Schwarzer is injured, if he was dropped for Carlo, McLaren has a screw loose. I wish him all the best, but I wouldn't like to be relying on Carlo to keep clean sheets weeke in, week out.

Moomba

Carlo managed a few clean sheets for City last season too, unfortunatley he usually followed up by letting in 3 or 4 the week after.

Not all his fault mind, often left exposed against good teams. Get well soon Mark...

Well, no. But their presence was certainly not insignificant. Pisa spent a good chunk of the 80s in Serie A and had players like Elliott, Larsen, Kieft, Chamot and Simeone pass through their ranks. And the then club president, the late Romeo Anconetani, is very much revered for his hard work in getting Pisa up there. Same with Constantino Rozzi at Ascoli, another provincial side which enjoyed a good spell up there and had some notable players adorn their jersey.

Catania had a good spell in the first half of the 60s, and until 1984 featured intermittently in the top flight before tumbling down. They're now back in Serie B.

An idea worth trying would be a 4-2-3-1 formation, in which you'd have just one out-and-out striker supported by three attacking midfielders. This might mean that Boateng, Doriva, Mendieta, Juninho and Zenden would be accomodated in the one team.

Last night and a fair bit last season we have played with a similar formation to that where it has been pretty much 4-4-1-1, the only problem has been that in the past this has meant everything attacking has gone through Juninho, hopefully with Zenden and Mendi also capable of attacking this may change. We must play Juninho rather then 2 crap strikers, particularly with Christie and Job both out for significant lengths of time

Very disappointing result for us at the Custard Bowl, to take the lead and then let it go - infuriating! Particularly against the Dingles who are rubbish.

(reply from bobbity2)

Ray Nolan, do you EVER say anything INTELLIGENT or is it always small-minded insults, usually aimed at Wolves? Yes, it was a tight game with both sides having a couple of clear-cut chances. However, Birmingham can consider themselves very, very lucky not to have lost at the death when Iversson squandered a glorious chance. So we are "rubbish"? Why did you not win the game? I look forward to Birmingham's slide down the table to a position that more accurately reflects their capabilities.:

You're going down with Leeds!

Nice to see the Vile scum are 10 places below us. At this rate the Dingles will overtake them!:p

100 years and won **** all doo dah

Bobbity2, do I ever say anything that's not an insult at Wolves? Well no, because I hate them almost as much as I hate Witton scum. Don't take it personally, I just can't bring meself to say anything nice about them. Take it as a backhanded compliment that I called you lot 'rubbish' - more frustration with our performance than anything, so I'd rather bag you lot to soothe my disappointment rather than criticise us. But if it makes you feel any better, I will say good luck to the Wolves when you take on the Vile.;) You lot actually look a better candidate for survival than they do at the moment :D

Apollo - enjoy life in the First Division, yer on yer way!:p

After last's nights Blackburn 2-1 Everton result the table (for Apollo & Bobbity's benefit) now stands as:

1 Arsenal
2 Chelsea
3 Manchester United
4 Charlton Athletic
5 Birmingham City
6 Manchester City
7 Fulham
8 Liverpool
9 Southampton
10 Newcastle United

13 Tottenham Hotspur
14 Bolton Wanderers
15 Leicester City
16 Blackburn Rovers
17 Aston Villa
-----------------------------
18 Everton
19 Wolverhampton Wanderers
20 Leeds United

Sorry folks, couldn't resist it! We Bluenoses rarely get the chance to gloat! :D :D :D

You obviously don't look at the calendar too much Ray.

November.......

We were top of the premiersip a couple of seasons ago in November and where did that get us???

1st division football ey, give us some pointers on how to put up with that mate.....

If you are really confident that we will go down, how about putting $20 on it.

As far as Wolves goes next game, we'll play them off the field. Anyone who plays Iversen up front deserves to be taught a football lesson, and that they shall.

To be honest I reckon you'll stay up because the Vile are the jammiest club in the history of Football. However, the ensuing relegation battle for you lot and the Dingles should be enough keep us Bluenoses entertained for months. Sure it's only November but if we only achieve midtable obscurity from here I don't care, because survival is the only goal for this season (and next) as far as I'm concerned.

Tip for surviving Div. 1 Football? Don't go down there big noting yourselves, expecting to come straight back up because you're 'a big club that deserves to be in the Premiership'. Do that and you'll be stuck there for ages. Hang on a sec, make sure you do take that approach ... ;) :p

Apollo, that's a very very harsh call on Iverson. When Wolves signed him, I thought "oh no...Spurs reject", but I watched all of the Birmingham game and was really impressed by him. Good workrate, high fitness level (especially considering he's not had much first-team football lately), and a really good first touch/close control for a tallish lad. With respect, I beg to differ on this one.

(P.s Ray Nolan, if you're reading this, set aside your feelings on Wolves- how did you rate Iverson's game?)

I thought he went OK to be honest but would I trade him for Forssell or Dugarry?

Question answers itself really.
