Get the feeling that Wallace's comments the other day might see JB thinking about pulling the pin. Whether he does or not could come down to how those who have currently filled his position.

If anyone missed them Wallace basically said the Thursfield, McGuane and Schulz are going to be 10-12 year players for this club and at present deserve first crack at the tall defensive positions.

The way the side is developing at the moment I wonder if, losing a player like Bowden, in terms of experience would be a good thing or bad thing? Much like moving Richo away from the forward line has allowed a few to start making their mark, as the removal of Bowden brought on the development of others much faster than expected?

FWIW, Schulz has looked fairly solid roaming across CHB and Thursty is going great guns at FB, McGuane it seems is a more than capable 3rd tall and if things are going badly we can always throw Polak back. With Rance and Gourdis now being groomed as tall dfenders as well it would seem that we are not exactly struggling in that dept.

On a side note, when other supporters refer to Richmond, ultimately it turns to a discussion about poor culture. Has Bowden been a chief instigator behind us not learning over the last decade that the club is bigger than the individual.

Others that spring to mind are Wayne Campbell, Matthew Knights, Brad Ottens, Darren Gasper, etc, etc.

Anyway... just a thought.

Think people are scapegoating Bowden somewhat. The improvement in the last two weeks is hardly down to his omission alone. To be honest I feel he has a fair bit more to offer than a number of players getting a gig both in terms of matchup versatility and in terms of talent.

I for one have always been of the opinion that he is perhaps the most poorly coached player in the history of the game. Could've been anything but was allowed by Walls, Geisch and Frawley to do the easy thing and not put in the hard yards required in the preseason to pinch hit on the ball where he could've been so damging. Wallace is no better in this regard and has simply gone with the same positioning figuring it is too late to change Joel. Personally I think Joel could reinvent himself as a forward and be a real nightmare to match up considering for his size he is fantastic overhead and is a clever footballer. The alternative argument is that we need his kicking down back but if we can't find a place for him there with the emergence of Moore, Mcguane and Schultz (which I am throughly unconvinced of I might add) then I see no reason why he couldn't be accomdodated up forward to release Deledio around the ground.

This debate is way to early , don't get too excited by a couple of good games , our young blokes are going to fade in and out of the side all year based on form and injury , Bowden is a class player and will play a role for us this year , forward or back.

Could of said the same for Nathan Brown after round 3 , why didn't he get dropped. After the Collingwood game it was Richo's turn with you guys and every one had him in retirement.

As our young team gets better we need to teach them the right culture and I'm sure they will be absolutely pumped to see a 250 game player traded for having a slow start to the season after their coach played them on Paul Medhurst (worst match up ever).

If you did trade a player like Bowden you wouldn't be after draft picks we'd need another experienced player 80-150 games. Right now we have about 4.

McGuane is being afforded the luxury of being able to play first grade under done and gaining fitness as he goes. Hasn't starred but hasn't had a shocker. Shows how important he is to the side. Still think Hyde is slow and scared, hope he isn't picked for Sunday. It will be a disaster

Correction, there is one person and his name happens to the Terry Wallace. Said in the pre game on Sunday that Thursfield, Schulz and McGuane will be 10-12 year players for the club and currently have first crack at the tall defenders spots. Doesn't come any clearer than that.

Would be really disappointed if he became trade bait. He has been a great servant of the club and it would be a very bad example to show the rest of the list if we tried to trade him. If we have no loyalty to 250+ game 2nd generation player at the club what culture do we have or trying to cultivate at Punt Road.

Different situation if he came out said he wanted to leave.

what i have noticed with posters on thise site, when someone has a bad game, or a bad patch they either want him to get traded, dropped or retired...Can someone give me a few reasons of why Hyde is apparently so bad? i havent seen him have a bad game this season and people want him dropped? Bowden has been Richmonds rock in the backline for how long and he has a couple of bad games and he gets dropped but still people arent here and want him retired or traded, there was even a time not long ago when i heard someone say Richo should retire because he is taking up a place for the younger players! this is simply ridiculous no wonder they say there is no culture at this club because the fans want everyone gone, and i dont see why some richmond supporters have already written off the game against hawthorn saying we have no chance, i mean come on we won our first game, the next two games we lost, we lost against the two premliminary finalists from last season, then we pump fremantle over at subiaco then we practically beat the dogs at thier own game in all departments but we just didnt come away with maximum points have some faith in the bloody team we have quality at all ends of the ground and quality coming in!!!

I know I'm being paranoid but was it not around this time last year that the Gasper "retirement" got messy for us?
Wallace told him he would not automatically gain selection ahead of the younger guys... Gas chucked a hissy fit and retired even though he had been named against The Cats?
IMO this took our eye off the ball and we know how large "a new one" Geelong tore Richmond that week!

Now if Wallace has had a similar discussion with Joel I hope he manages it a bit better than last years effort.
