Now that we have the perspective of history to weigh it all upon I would love to be able to look back upon the 2009/10 pre season and season proper as seen through the eyes of bigfooty, reliving the important signings and growing excitement as the team uncovered hidden gems and built enough power to take the flag.

Don't have the search skills unfort :( but it would be fun:)

Jonbe, in 2009 Beams and Sidebottom began to attract my attention. I also started to get seriously excited in that year about our flag prospects. I was at Docklands for a game against the Doggies in mid 2009, when the Pies absolutely killed it in the first quarter/first half. The Doggies caught up with us in the second half, and we got over the line by 1 point (?) in the end. Beamsy took a mark under enormous pressure in the dying minutes of the last quarter, and I was smitten. Gutsy effort by the kid, and helped us win the game. Outside the stadium, after the game, there was this amazing spontaneous gathering of Pies fans, chanting and singing. I went home that night thinking: there's a flag in this team. In 2010, as the year progressed, there was sadness at the fact that Tarks, O'Bree, Fraser, etc, were being usurped by the younger guys, but at the same time a growing awareness that we had a real chance. Wellingham was part of that equation, as was Leigh Brown. But the acquisition of Ball and Jolly (as has been noted on numerous posts) was the icing on the cake. I still doubt we would have one the 2010 flag without them.

Agree on Ball and Jolly Vicky but it was the improvement of our bottom 6 that got me going, for the longest time Pies have had a top notch top 6 players with serviceable mid rangers but lacked anything in the bottom 6.

The added depth of quality to the bottom of the playing group was the essential difference to me, we had no weak links in terms of effort or desire.

Here's a start jonbe54! Seems I ran out of steam in round 14:oops:

The timecapsule thread 2010

Edit: Big thanks to half back flank for compiling most of those links! I just posted them for him.

Discussing them with son after, we grew a leg during the season. By that I mean our depth increased to the point that we were a far better side from part way into the season than at the start, McCaffer is a prime example of bottom 6 prospects growing into their roles and providing options that we didn't have at the start of the year. You can talk all you like about your champions but every team needs the supporting cast to come to the party and that year we found them. By the time finals came around we didn't really have a weakness from top to bottom we were a unit.
