ok, so after seeing a couple of full games now, I think I have my rd 1 side down pat.

Grimes Rance Newy
Morris Post Lids
Batch Cotch Conca
Edwards Jack Maric
Nahas Ty Miller

Maric Tuck Dusty

Foley Grigg Jackson sub: Ellis

Emergency - Helbig, Drex, Webbs.

Backs - Lids and Newy remain back as experience with lids rotating through the midfield late in the quarters. Morris as the shut down and physical defender that we need. The KPP's pick themselves at this stage.

Midfield - Loaded up with ball winners early, with 3 more ball winners rotating through the bench and a few small forwards all capable of going though there aswell, not discounting Lids and newy either.

Forwards - Pace, smarts, talls and pressure, all our midfielders are more than capable of going in their aswell.

Thoughts?

You left out Houli..

Team rd 1

Grimes Rance Morris
Ellis Post Batchelor
Conca Tuck Houli
Nahas Miller Deledio
Maric Riewoldt Vickery
Maric Cotchin Martin
Newman Jackson Foley Grigg

Hopeful End of end side

Griff CHF
Post solid CHB
Vickery dangerous up forward and in the ruck
No Grigg and Jackson
Helbig/First year player really pointing his hand up to play

You left out Houli..

Yeah, not intentionally I might add, so good pick up.

I now cant fit him in, and I know the obvious choice to drop is Morris, but I want to see what he's got against the better small forwards in the comp come rd 1. So for me, he stays and we find out. I guess I could replace Grigg, but I think my team has reached its quota for smalls.

Edwards could also be replaced by Houli in some poeple eyes, but Houli isnt a fwd and doesnt have the same x factor. I am still holding out hope that Connors will push for selection later in the year and give Titch some competition for his spot.

Edited: I will change it around after further thought as Houli will play, so better off being realistic.

Theres absolutely no chance that Houli will not play rd 1. He had over 30 possesions like 5 or 6 times last season!

I like the idea of Morris playing rd 1, and I think that Dimma rates him highly. If he has a good shootout against the Giants, I think he will be included in the rd 1 side to take on betts and garlett.

I have absolutely no idea how we will fit him in though.

Houli has no ability leading to the ball, couple that with poor aerial skills means forward he is not and would b a liability if played there wing would b ok but i really only see him as a back.

The cats game or free one were Edwards had ten takels ? If he played on betts he could match him for endurance.

Betts and Judd will be the concern for us.

Looks good. Jeez I hope morris plays.

Me to. I believe we can carry his foot skills which arent as bad as everyone is making out. He is an animal at the contest, and we need his type in the team.

I think you have missed the reason this came up mate.

:confused:No I didn't...I followed the thread and thought this was a logical follow up question. It's what you would call the evolution of a discussion.

You stated in post #962 "Haha I think we agree Houli cant play forward."
Which was in reference to the team that you suggested for round 1. ( because you had a couple players mixed up in your original line up).

But I'm now posing the question Why can't he play forward?

My apologies Sir. I misunderstood the context of your comment.

He hasnt played forward for us, but apparently did at the Dons.

I personally couldnt see him as a HFF myself, although the ball in his hands forward of centre is always exciting.

If he could get enough of the ball it could work, wouldn't be against giving him some time there against gws to see what happens

Yeah true, I just feel he lacks that creative edge that you want in a HFF, whether that be evasive skills, high marking, ferocious tackling or pure speed.

Agree with your reasons and ive also noticed at training when he has to lead at the ball carrior he props and stops and completley misjudges the flight of the ball a hell of alot that to me is enough to say forward is not his go.
