Now that it's off-season and mostly all players recovered from injurys. who do we reckon will be our starting best 22 next season and who do we think its going to be playing new roles, will ross smith defensive tactics might set us up differently? who will be the next most improved players..

That's what I reckon, we should let our pick 15 have a run at Coburg for the first half of the year instead of chucking them in the deep end straight away like we have with Conca

I predict Martin and Cotchin barring injury will become as good as Pendlebury and Swan. They won't have the same history as yet but in terms of ability they will be just as good. Riewoldt will slowly return to 2010 form, and our backline should start to settle. We should see Deledio player greater %'s of games in the middle as the season draws towards finals.

We will be playing finals if there is no injuries to key players.

i still think we will have a rough trot mid year and burn finals aspirations...finals is expected this year not hoped for

i have massive hopes for derrickx, think he is going to be a great addition to the ruck division this year, astbury im not completely sold on yet, i think post will have a much improved year and so will jack, cotch, dusty and vicks.

im not overly sold on griffiths either, seems to have lost his way, i did like the look of him last season but now he has lachy hansen mk II on him, which makes me extremely worried.

Will definitely be a better back 6 with maybe even some competition for spots:eek: Big hopes once again for griffiths and really hoping that conca pumps out a good full season

depending if griff can get up and about might check into CHF and push out a fringe player. if "mitch morton" is in the right frame of mind/body he is a weapon and wouldnt rule him out of best 22. i cannot see grigg best 22 due to poor decision making/kicking. edwards only on hes potenital and smoothness. astbury needs to show something, king needs to get more consistant in games not so in and out. i say throw jr8 CHF if he leeds up takes a mark he useally smart kick will hit someone inside 50 clearly rotate him FF tho! im bit of a daniel jackson hater so i wont put him in my best 22 due to hatered

I realise Morton, Connors and Moore are controversial yet I am basing this on ability and fitness - my ideal as opposed to realistic team.

This all depends on the NAB cup games. If Morris steam rolls everyone in the NAB cup he'll be in the 22, no questions asked. Maric is a definate starter, why else would we get him. Edwards gets a wing because he used to dominate the wing and he is just so agile and sweeps and swerves through players, plus he's got some pace. Deledio gets another wing because he isn't much of a in and under player and would be best suited to the wing where he can just boom it onto Riewoldt's chest from 60m away. Newman should stay where he is, he's just had a bad season and should get over it. No Griffiths, this doesn't mean that I don't rate him because I do and know the potential in him, it's just his contribution. He needs to be more of a Nick Riewoldt where he just keeps running and out-pace his opponent to get the ball. No Morton because he is a one-quarter wonder then he's gone for the other three. And I know that he's like this is because he is put at HF and not on the wing. White gets the nod from me because King is suspended for Round 1. If we get Brad McKenzie at 15 then we'll swap him with Helbig.

ROUND 1

B: Newman - Rance - Grimes
HB: Conca - Post - Bachelor
C: Tuck - Cotchin - Houli
HF: Helbig - Vickery - Nahas
F: Martin - Riewoldt - Miller
R: Maric - Deledio - Foley

I/C: Edwards, Astbury, Grigg
Sub: Webberely

Notes

*I predict Morris may get a round one birth, but I expect a bigger role from him as the year progresses.
*Newman will start the year in the backline, but hopefully become a more damaging player once the year progresses, Morris can replace him in the backline with his noted rebound 50 experience.
*I've started Houli in the centre, that was what we expected from Houli but he played last year in the half back line.
*Griffiths will not be ready to compete properly in round 1, Miller will be a solid choice for that forward 50 spot.
*Martin and Deledio rotate through the midfield and forward line, both can kick goals.
*Conca and Bachelor to drive us off half back and release Houli, Deledio & Newman as the year progresses, fantastic kicks.
* Simple three talls forward line, we need speed, Maric will be pivotal to drop back and create a contest.
*Jackson needs to improve to continue getting games, was woeful in round 24.
*White, Morton, Connors, McGuane, Thursfield and their friends are our fringe players, will need to significantly improve to receive games, and they'll need to be even better to continue playing.
* King not included due to suspension.

Round 11

B: Morris - Rance - Grimes
HB: Conca - Post - Bachelor
C: Houli - Cotchin - Newman
HF: King - Vickery - Nahas
FF: Deledio - Riewoldt - Astbury
R: Maric - Martin - Foley

I/C: Grigg, Griffiths, Webberely

Sub: Edwards

Notes
*Morris to cement his spot throughout the season, will be known to shut down small forwards and have an excellent ability to rebound from defensive 50.
*Our first round draft pick will get a good go, I'm just not throwing him in because he is non existent as of October 17th 2011.
*Don't think Helbig will be able to cement his spot every week yet, but will get a good run.
*Newman & Houli to set up attacks through the centre of the ground, could be a lethal combination that results in more outside 50 goals, and direct passes to Riewoldt, Vickery, Maric and Astbury.
*Expecting Astbury to be reinvented as that third tall forward, did very well early in his career in the forward line, whilst playing deplorable in defence in 2011. I think it's worth experimenting with this.
*Griffiths and Post to fight out for that CHB position, with Thursfield & McGuane (if available) to be used as depth.
*Deledio & Martin to continue rotating through the midfield and forward line with one another.
*Tuck & Miller too lose their spot, in and out of the team.

Round 22

B: Morris - Rance - Grimes
HB: Conca - Griffiths - Bachelor
C: Houli - Cotchin - Newman
HF: Helbig - Vickery - King
FF: Astbury - Riewoldt - Nahas
R: Maric - Deledio - Martin

I/C: Tuck, Post, Foley

Sub: Grigg

Notes
*The team we should aim for, for round 22 2012.
*Midfield solidifies Martin and Deledio along with Cotchin, Houli and Newman and Foley/Tuck/Grigg rotating through. This will create a midfield that can kick, with speed, strength, grunt and poise.
*Big moment for either Griffiths and Post, one will make it Round 1 2013, one will need to start again with another repackage.
*Thursfields, McGuane's, Farmer, Nason, Morton, Connors, and a few others will most likely be eliminated to make room for a big draft and possibly a big fish.
* Can still see holes in our list, we may have surprises however with Contin, Heslin, Webberely and Helbig. I'm expecting something strong from 1-2 of these guys.

No reason why we shouldn't aim for the 8, it's not the best list, but definitely middle of the pack, 6-12.

Assuming Caddy stays in GC next year this would be my team atm.

FINALS HERE WE COME - no injuries and we have a big chance

Surprised (apart from M_R) their is no love for Dea, even on the bench/sub/emergency. With a full preseason will easily be in our best 22. Quality act.

There would be a few ducks and drakes going on. I rate him. I think Morris and a few other guys can play up the ground, Dea will get a go at some stage, just a sign our team is getting stronger!!

Love these threads. Especially in October.

We've got to pass the time some how!! I love the enthusiasm. :thumbsu:

Interesting that Morton only got 1 mention - as an emergency. Obviously not a lot of expected upside for Mitch.
