What the hell not much else to discuss at the moment.

B: Grimes Rance Astbury
HB: Newman Post Batchelor
C: Deledio Cotchin Conca
HF: Houli Vickery Grigg
F: Griffiths Riewoldt Nahas
R: Maric Martin Foley
I/C: Morris Dea Kavanagh(pick 15)
Sub: Grigg(pick 26)

Obviously dreaming about the 2 draft picks but if we were to nab them(which is possible) I'd be quite pleased with the off season.

Just to explain a few decisions:
- I've gone with Grimes as a midsized defender rather than true, posters might see that as strange but with Post Astbury & Rance playing as the true talls I believe that Grimes could be quite handing floating around.
- Half back I've gone with Batchelor and Newman as the rebounding defenders which has allowed Deledio to move to the wing and Houli to go to the half forward line where he was originally recruited to play. I've also moved Grigg to HF as well to add more depth to the midfield rotation.
- Nahas gets the small forward spot where I believe he could quite easily kick 40 goals over the course of the season. I'd also continue to use him for occassional bursts in the midfield to try and break the game open a little.

I refuse to have Grigg in our best 22. Doesn't look afl standard at all and is an awful kick. Never goes in either. Please bring back Collins. I'd take Jacko anyday over Grigg and we really shouldn't be playing both in the same 22. Our list is really starting to look good and we are weeding out the crap but then we decide to add Grigg to the list. He's the type of player we should have got rid of 2 years ago

I doubt Kavanagh will drop to 15 and I would be crying of happiness if Grigg slipped to 26.

It's hard to pick a side when we don't know exactly who we have got.

Having said that, and slightly off topic, I am thinking we have some good things in place. Benny Gale seems to be doing a good job. After two terrible coaches in Frawley and Wallace we finally seem to have a bloke who knows what he is doing and who is hungry. And finally, after two shocking captains in Johnson and Campbell we now have a reasonable captain keeping the seat warm for the likes of Cotchin and Martin.

Our membership is increasing, I'd like to think our debt is decreasing and we seem to be doing things better off the field.

Onfield, We have moved on blokes like Richo and replaced him with Jack and also we have put a solid mid-field together. If Astbury, Grimes and the smaller backs like Morris, Helbig, Bach come on then our backline is looking stronger. Our rucks seem plentiful but really they are duds so that's a spot to fix. And big Ty seems to have come on nicely this season.

So 2012 should be one of those years where we start to put some pressure on the finals. It will be Dimma's final year so it will be interesting to see what transpires.

Helbig and Houli are not backs IMO. They are mids pushed to the backline to find a position IMO.

What I find is RFC seem to have this policy of picking mediocre mids to fill these supposed holes who are not good enough so they push them to the backline. Eg. Connors is another one. This is why RFC IMO would be far smarter getting quality players in certain positions like backs, forwards and specialist wingers and when a high quality mid comes our way, ie real high quality then you get them. For example this year I would get Docherty who could play up the ground but with him you can sign off the backline as all the cogs in place except maybe CHB eg. running rebounded with great kicking and defensive side with speed to release Lids forward particularly as Morris also can play up the ground. Both players have a definite defensive side with speed. Then I would get D Marworth, forward who can be mid and flanker , player with brains which helps our forward and wing deficiencies giving Lids support. Some of these semi average mids popping up at 15 and 26 are far too risky IMO. Better off getting caddy in 2012 who will then release EFC has little immediate future and Tigerland is the place to be in the next 10 years for a Vic team.

B: Grimes Rance Morris
HB: Newman Astbury Batchelor
C: Deledio Cotchin Conca
HF: Nahas Vickery Houli
F: Griffiths Riewoldt King
R: Maric Martin Foley
I/C: Edwards, Dea, M.Grigg (15)
S: Webberley/Helbig

Biggest Improvers: Astbury, Batchelor, Conca, Griffiths, Dea.

I like it. Although I think Post will have a breakout year in '12.

B: Rance Grimes Morris
HB: Batchelor Astbury Newman
C: Conca** Cotchin^ Houli
HF: King^^ Griffiths Deledio**
FF: Vickery Riewoldt Martin*
R: Maric Foley^ Tuck*
I/C: Post, Dea, Nahas^^
S: New draftee/Connors

-Foley, Tuck and Cotchin to contest first bounce of game. From then on, at every bounce combination of Tuck/Martin(hard body) + Foley/Cotchin(in under) + Conca/Deledio(silk). If opposition kicks 2 goals, again Foley+Tuck+Cotchin combo.
-Grimes for mine as full back. More classic spoil type. Rance more damaging second man up, bashing and crashing and running out of defense with ball.
-Connors is a flog but if he gets his stuff together, with his talent there's a spot for him perhaps changing with houli or someone of that elk.
-Griffiths may be pipe dream, if injured Riewoldt/Miller/Post rotating through forward line
-Hoping Tigers fans aren't calling for Morris' head round 5 2012. Here's hoping his skills aren't McGuanish. If he turns out rubbish Dea starts in place.
-Grigg/Edwards/Connors/new draftees would want to play some good 2s footy for a chance.

I know Tuck "not part of future" but until he can be replaced he stays. Need a hard bodied mid at every bounce IMO.

Re: Best 22 2012

Pretty close IMO.

1 too many talls though. Post or Griffiths comes out, and either Jackson, Tuck or Edwards comes in.

Also, while it's likely that Morris & Pick 15 will be good enough for best 22, without having seen either at AFL level, I don't think we should speculate.

AAmazing how someone from another club has probably nailed it better than most :o

would love to see Morris in round one.

sounds different but...

in NBA they have an impact player who starts on the bench. (6th man award)

we would be the first team to do it and commentators would be like wtf blah blah we no nothing ect ect.

So i purpose groom a player who comes of the Sub bench and has an instant impact.

a CF would be ideal position for a impact player

Re: Best 22 2012

FB: Morris Rance Grimes
HB: Batchelor Post Dea
C: Conca Cotchin Newman
HF Nahas Astbury Houli
FF: Martin Riewoldt Vickery

R: Maric Foley Deledio
IC: Tuck, King, Griffiths
Sub: Helbig

I think Astbury is worth a try at CHF while Griffiths is getting his crap together and this let's Post try and make CHB his own.

.Morris. .Rance. .Grimes.

.Newman. .Post/Astbury. .Batchelor.

.Houli. .Foley. .Deledio.

.Conca. .Griffiths/Miller. .Nahas.

.King. .Riewoldt. .Vickery.

.Maric. .Cotchin. .Martin.

.Grigg. .Dea. .Tuck. .(Edwards).

Looking at that it seems as though we need one more big guy, but having both Post and Astbury is too risky, McGuane and Thursfield are average, as are Browne and Graham.

Don't know whether to go Miller or Griffiths, I like Miller in there as the big body, he may not get a lot of it, but his body definitely helps out.

Looking at Morris if he is a good lock down defender he will get a game first round. A small lock down defender is just as bad as a decent ruckman. How many good small forwards kick bags against us. With pick 15 if we are wanting a mid he will play, looking at our last few years our smaller first round picks have played the first game (except when injured). Yes Tuck is a good player but he is getting old now. Jackson will onl play if we need a taggger desperately and edwards turns the ball over wa too much but does work really hard.

AAmazing how someone from another club has probably nailed it better than most :o
Ha thats a joke how could you go for a side like gold coast when there is a great side called Richmond

I rate Edwards and think he should take a wing and swap with Nahas every 10 mins on the HFF. Am I the only one who rates Edwards good enough in the starting 18? I think he has a great workrate and willingness to go after the footy, he's still in our best 22 at least imo....

This is what I would like to see.

B: Grimes, Rance, Morris
HB: Dea, Astbury/Post, Batchelor
C Newman, Cotchin, Houli
HF: Nahas/Grigg, Griffiths, Deledio/Martin
F: King, Riewoldt, Vickery
R: Maric, Foley, Martin/Deledio
IC: Conca, Grigg/Nahas, Tuck
Sub: one of Edwards, White or Pick 15.

Batchelor and Dea would provide us with the rebound from defence, Dea has the ability to play on talls and smalls, so he is pretty versatile. Newman and Houli on the Wings, 2 marvellous left footers delivering into the forward fifty. Deledio and Martin on the flank, arguably two of our best 3 shots at goal from outside 50. Big Marking CHF in Griffo and leaves King and Nahas to crumb off of Jack and Vickery in the pocket as a third tall, rotating with Maric. I have Shaun Grigg in the side because he played his best footy forward of center, and I can see him rotating with Nahas, running up the ground. Overall, I think it is a pretty balanced side. White and Edwards are there because they would be the type of Sub we would need. A straight away 100% run and carry player able to hurt opposition players who are tiring.

from what i have seen in his games for us he is clearly not ready and seems more like a fringe player. Morris will be playing HB

Agreed Dea is going to be a great player. I wouldnt write him off like most of you did with Rance, Vickery etc..
