Looks like that dilemma is over, players at Tigerland, alot of our small forward line have come from draft picks way back in the list.

Drafting also,we did make a few blunders, but we tried to give Yazz and Cuzzy a lifeline and for that I applaud the RFC,but look at Nank,Prestia,Caddy and our small forwards and our recruiting team have been magnificent, also due to Balmey and a revamped and refreshed Dimma and new assistant coaching staff, when you look at last year and the takeover bids to now, wow, the transformation has been unbelievable!

Yes,I stress every week, that's the old Tiger in me who has seen turmoil and pain,I must now understand that our club is strong from the top down and we are going places,we are still hunted, but I think the players after quarter time finally said enough's enough,I think we have turned a major corner yesty but stay focussed, the next game will be even harder,Saints will do everything to give Roo a win on his exit from football, milestone games,we seem to get the makority of them sobs but I believe Richmond want payback for that poor performance at Etihad.

Cmon you yellow and blacks!

The new match committee has made a huge difference.

I'm almost sold that Dimma wasn't the one to blame for continually selecting Hunt, Morris, Batchelor etc.

This week was a perfect example. A debut, a first game, and a second year player who hadn't played for weeks.

Any other year the ins would have been Hunt, Miles & Batchelor or something similarly stupid.

Hunt has played two games this year, done nothing, and been a part of one of the two games we were thumped in this year.

Morris got 1 game, played shit, we got thumped.

Batchelor played one game, played shit, and we lost to a team we just beat by 104 points.

Any other year these guys played more games and as a result we would have lost more games.

As long as the match committee don't poo their pants for finals I think we are a sniff.

I’ve been critical of our player development in the past, but I’m happy to say that I’m very comfortable about where its heading.

From the 40th player on the list to the B&F, and everyone in between. Soldo. The Mosquito Fleet. Astbury and Grimes taking another step. Dusty going from good to better to perhaps, best. Continual reinvention on JR, Cotch and Rance.

It needs to happen EVERY year though, so no kicking back on laurels just yet.

lol what player development. This should be interesting. Are we talking juniors 18 -21 or both juniors and Development 18 - 24.

There is not one A grade player on our list that we have developed in these two age brackets. In fact im hard pressed to find a PROVEN B grade player.
Now im not saying kids will not go onto bigger and better things, but right at this moment development is nothing to write home about.

Lets do a team with these two age groups. That is kids taken in the nd and rookie drafts.

FB: Vlastuin - #### - Garthwaite
HB: McIntosh - #### - Markov
C: Menadue - Graham - Drummond
R: Soldo - Townsend - C Ellis
HF: Lennon - Elton - Butler
FF: Chol - Moore - Rioli
Int: Castagna - Stengle - Short - Bolton.

Im not buying into any of this airy fairy stuff. All i can say is there is an opportunity for 8 teams this yr its that even, but i still maintain it is this yr or bust yep the wilderness awaits again.
to be perfectly frank i can the saints rubbing our noses in it again and a team like melbourne rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of playing us week one in the finals. In short im still asking what has really changed from say 2013 or 2015

This is an underrated point , no telling where the impetus came from directly however I suspect that the blueprint over summer was all about developing a new unit that naturally would feature NEW players , 12 months ago we saw the same incoming and omissions like a revolving door, there's been a lot of faith shown in our young players and for the most part they've delivered

Did we not play a whole heap of kids last yr. In fact id say we probably gave mnore games to kids last yr than we have this yr.

Why are you blokes all giving high fives like Richmond has actually done something.. We will make the finals but that doesn't mean there is this glorious bright future ahead of us now..

Our match committee give C grade players too many chances and this has always cost us dearly in crucial stages of games.. We would still be playing Vickery every week if he was still on our list.. He heads over to Hawthorn who are the masters of recruitment and development and he doesn't get a game despite being a big dollar recruit..

That picture alone tells me alot about what is wrong with Richmond..

This thread Is a joke, we beat Freo ffs..

343 posts in 12 years checks out.

Genuine C grade players have played 4 games this year (Hunt 2, Morris 1, Batchelor 1) possibly 10 if you add the 6 played by Elton but IMO he is still in development phase and through those games they discovered he won't make it.

The word here is development. Most of the young players in our side are tracking way above their draft positions. Sure Melbourne may have some elite talent, but they are top 5 draft pics, Petracca, Hogan, Oliver, Viney etc. So they needed little in the way of development in comparison to most of our youth.
What we did wrong was select players with our draft pics like C.Ellis and Lennon who are just not fast enough to player the game the way it has developed recently. Ellis may yet come on. Vlaustin is A grade from my perspective. But MacIntosh, Markov, Menaduye, Graham, Butler, Castagna, Short etc are all lowish draft pics or rookies. You would have to be happy with their development surely. Bolton and Rioli are higher and tracking much better than expected given their body types.
We will find out this week and through the finals series whether we are up to it or not, but our improvement from last season has been pretty steep, especially from those outside our established top end talent, and even if we go out in the finals, as long as it is not a disaster, we will be very able to rebound next year with the age of our stars and the natural further progression from our young players. I get the pessimism, it is hard to stay positive after all these years of false promises, but we are in the best place to maintain our progression that we have been for many years.

When our season was cooked, yeah. There was only really one kid/inexperienced playing all of last year, IIRC, Daniel Rioli. This year our whole forward line is just about under 20

Don't celebrate yet, not even close.

I will be waiting to see our match selection for our finals campaign. Will they take the sensible approach and select players on form or panic like the north game and bring underdone players?

Also, where's the development of any key position players?

Alright, I'll retract that, most of our forward line are around 20. A please spare me, castagna and butler have had 'ok' seasons. Butler (pick 67 2014) went from never playing an AFL game before to 24 goals from 19 games, and castagna (RD pick 29 2015) went from 2 goals in 5 games to 23 in 21. All while helping us have the best forward pressure in the league and picking up a rising star nom each IIRC. I can take not being fully sold on them long term yet, that's fair, but suggesting they've had anything other than great years is ridiculous.

Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows....

Defeatist much? FFS, try and enjoy something for goodness sake. Which do you enjoy more, 2013, 14, 15 and 17 or 2007, 09, 10 and 2016?

Todd Elton just needs another 2 year contract.... and Posty is just a run of games away. Just trade in the talls, too much time spent developing them. Let someone else do it and pay them for it.
