According to Sky Sports NEws he will appeal against both the guilty verdict, and the severity of the sentence.

I can see the point in appealing the severity, but surely he has no basis for appealing the guilty verdict, that seems obvious.

It seems like a token effort to me.

8 months is fine. I'd be filthy if he got the suspension reduced and ended up playing a few games for England. Better that he spends his time keeping fit and getting ready for next season.
