The West think they are hilarious for constantly publishing back page articles about Harley Reid - just leave the kid alone!
He's a good player already and going to be elite most likely. They're like flies on... well, you know. Poor kid.

Having said that, I'd laugh like a drain if he demanded a trade to, say, Western Sydney because of too much media attention.

I don't understand why they keep doing it to him. If he played for us I would be livid about what has been done to him. As a mother, I feel for his family.

We are all envious he doesn't play for our own teams, but he is still a young human.

yes jealousy/ envy i think causes a lot of the issues when commenting on such players.

Wanting them for your own team.
Would 100% love to have him in the Dockers. But would doubly hate the media attention if he played for my team.

Drains laugh raucously :)

I'm as cut up about Cam as anyone but I don't think the game should have been postponed for it. You're in a competition, you're scheduled to play, that's it. If you have a dozen players mentally unfit to play it's the same as having a dozen physically unfit. You rest them and play someone else. If too many are unavailable and you can't put a team out for whatever reason, you forfeit. Applies to the under 12s. Applies 100 times over to the AFL

Shame they didnt follow the example for when Adelaide coach was murdered.

The AFL spoke to the two teams and the opposition didnt call for a forfeit they ageed to it being called a draw.

yet they cancelled the 2016 match for Adelaide

Slightly different circumstances, no? Let's put it in perspective, it's a tragic death of an ex player off the list for several years, not a current player, certainly not the current coach.

Was kind of a weird 13th hour type thing.

Too soon for the players to have processed their emotions and reset, too late for the afl to come up with an alternative.

It is what it is.

Different in your eyes obviosuly. But looking at the tears on Fyfes and PEarces faces, it was too hard to be there.

That ex player was a close freind of a number of the players. Very close freind who had issues and they were deeply grieving.

Players should not have been out there in front of the media at a time like that. Fremantle should have pulled the team off and leave it to sydney to call forfiet or Draw.

So now you're saying we should have turned it into a game of brinkmanship on the night and dared the AFL to forfeit us? Really?
I listened to Garlick on Saturday morning, he spoke very well, he said the club never contemplated asking for the game to be postponed, their focus was on giving individual players the opportunity to put their hands up and declare themselves unfit. Difficult for a player to do, so perhaps if anything the club could have been more proactive in declaring that for players that were close to him and taking the burden off them, but overall the club handled it well.

I don't think there is a correct response in a situation like this, and they had to make some very quick decisions in the moment. No decision under that amount of pressure was going to be 'perfect' and we can only hope that teams are not faced with these circumstances again.

I am sure it will be analysed, analysed again, and different protocols may/or may not have been put in place.

Thats a pretty different scenario though right, he was their current coach at the time, whilst Cam hadn’t played since 2020.

Listening to Garlick on Saturday it impressed me, the way the club handled it seems pretty empathetic and strong, and they were in contact with the AFL regarding potential impacts. For sure they handled the situation with far more empathy than any employer I’ve ever had would!

I’m personally ok that the game went on, but I do understand people that think it should have been postponed.

This is why anyone who says 'only a few Freo players played with him' to downplay the effect it had on the playing group are wrong. Players socialise between clubs, with WAFL players, and with ex-teammates. He'd have been well known and well liked by a lot of players who joined after we let him go.
