Hard-living Australian rock band Rose Tattoo have suffered another loss, with the death today of former bassist Ian Rilen

Only just discovered this thread.

I was lucky enough to know Ian for over 20 years, they broke the mould with him; truly one of the greatest Australian musicians ever.

Indeed. 2007 was apparently a bad year for great bass guitarists. September saw the demise of the great Mikey Donaldson, aka Mikey Offender.

Mikey was the bass player for Texan greats The Offenders, as well as stints in MDC & DRI. Arguably the greatest hardcore bass guitarist ever, his playing on The Offenders 'Endless Struggle' LP & MDC's first album in particular is nothing short of blistering.
