I actually played a couple of games against Kevin when he was at Lang Lang. I was chasing him once when he unleashed a torpedo punt kick that would have went about 75m. I couldn't believe it, had never seen anything like it in any game I played and that remained true, never saw anyone else kick a ball that far at close quarters. His older brother Lenny played in our comp as well, as did Geoff and Gary at different times.
Kevin had a sort of subtle menace about him, not that I ever saw him do anything dirty but nobody was ever taking any liberties with him. Sad to hear he has passed.

Kevin Ablett was also at the centre of one of the funnier commentary moments, I think when he was actually playing for Richmond with brother Geoff. Commentator Doug Wade declared "the Ablett brothers are hard to tell apart, although one of them has a beard."
Kevin was the one with the beard.
