RIP Lemmy

I'm devastated to learn of the passing of Lemmy Kilmister.

He was a musical force and pioneer and also a generous, accommodating person.

Turn up the Motorhead and celebrate one of the true musical greats of the last 50 years.

A true music legend.

Loved his work with Hawkwind and maybe it worked out best that he missed the band bus, was sacked and set out to form Motorhead.

My hearing took a great hit at a Motorhead gig............It was so bad I went back for seconds.

Vale Ian 'Lemmy a Quid' Kilmister:( I guess now you'll find the truth of the matter...

EDIT: From Rolling Stone magazine...

...The band's official Facebook confirmed Kilmister's passing, "There is no easy way to say this… our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer."

"He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made it's way down the street, with his family," the statement continued. "We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren't words. We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please… play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy's music LOUD. Have a drink or few. Share stories. Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself. HE WOULD WANT EXACTLY THAT..."

...Born Ian Kilmister, "Lemmy" got his start in music as a roadie for the Jimi Hendrix Experience; he shared an apartment with bassist Noel Redding. By 1972, Kilmister joined the space-rock band Hawkwind, serving as their bassist for three years, including their landmark live LP, 1973's Space Ritual. However, by 1975, Kilmister was tossed out of Hawkwind and he and his distinctly gravelly voice began fronting his own project: Motörhead. The band took its name from the song "Motorhead," a Hawkwind B-side that Kilmister wrote and later refurbished for Motörhead's 1977 self-titled debut.

"I wrote that when I was in Hawkwind," Kilmister told Rolling Stone. "The song was about speed and it was an issue to Hawkwind, and that's why I got fired. I never asked them what they thought of Motörhead after that. I didn't care what they thought of it. I don't think of 'Motörhead' as a defining song, though. That song's long gone for me now."

Kilmister's distinct, pulverizing bass and unmistakable snarl were the backbone of Motörhead singles like "Killed By Death," "Bomber" and "Overkill." However, the band's biggest, most influential track was 1980's "Ace of Spades," a speed metal classic that remains the band's most enduring cut...

He packed a lot in to 70 years so everyone shouldn't be on social media doing their 'RIP :(' plastic shit as it was his time. Their last tour wasn't the best either cept for the encore. They played Ace of Spades on the young ones you know and ahhh..yeah most people won't know anything else about them.

RIP Lemmy. Sorry about the douchebags on social media.

Yes it was his time and yes he packed more living into one life than most people will dream of but I'm still bitterly sad at his passing.

It's not fake plastic emotion from me.

Was a roadie for Jimi Hendrix.
Lived life hard.
True Rock Legend.

It's pretty stupid the way people respect this guy after death yet ignore so many other decent people.

Pop culture I suppose.

Odd post. I'd suggest everyone posting here respected him when he was alive. I know I did. I also respect other people though that has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

One of the biggest regrets of my life was seeing Lemmy in drinking at a pub alone in Notting Hill , London about 13 years ago and not having the guts to go up and say hi.

RIP Lemmy

A mate of mine had a similar experience but got up the courage to say hello. Said Lemmy was appreciative, complimented his girlfriend and was up for a quick chat. Totally humble guy given his status in music.

RIP

Read the comments on the Motorhead FB. Lost count of the amount of people who have said they nervously said hello (usually at the Rainbow) and he'd ask them to sit down and have a chat and a drink.
