Let’s hope he’s remembered more for the songs he sang in his peak rather than that bizarre performance at the 2011 Grand Final. He was a great singer back in the day and should be remembered as such.RIP Meat Loaf
Agreed re 2011 GF - that was just 10th rate and the AFL should have refused to pay his fee.

Lot of love for the Loaf. Grew up listening him, until Grandpa borrowed Mum's album and never gave it back.

Saw him at the Palais. Plenty of energy, talent, and the enthusiasm of a bloke who loved singing that peculiarly theatrical brand of rock.

Paradise by the Dashboard Light: corker.

One of my favourite albums…Bat out of Hell
RIP my friend
No, he just killed a few songs.
I remember how much I was looking forward to seeing him that day.
The first of two disappointments.

Total agreement and he wasn't 1/10th the showman that people like Bowie, Bolan and Ferry were.

I think your assessment is harsh. Loaf had his own style, did it well, and to say that he wasn't a tenth of people like Bowie is unfair.

I'm not a Meat Loaf 'fan', not in the same way I'm a fan of other musicians. I'm a fan of Bat Out of Hell, which I consider an outlandish and brilliant piece musical theatre as much as a rock album.

In other words, it's NQR to compare him to Bowie, or Presley, or most other artists.

PS: He was a glorious showman, even if he had his off nights...and GF days.

Well it's all in the eye of the beholder JB - his best was very good indeed but the gap to his other days was regrettable whereas Bowie simply didn't have off days.

You need to remember also that Bowie and Bolan in particular were cutting edge pioneers - their 'off days' were so far above the best of their contempories and their best was just mind blowing.

As for myself well I grew up in the heavy rock days of Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple - not as showy as the two B's but simply blitzing entertainers.
