Gawd they make me mad.

Had 2 out here this morning to quote on repairing a part of a computerised treatment system. The system is around $17 000 Aus to buy new.

After 2 seperate repair men, calls to the units manufacturer in the states, the Australian affiliate representative and a system owner in NSW who had reported the same problem, I had quotes starting at $800 US for a replacement recoditioned unit thru to $3500 US for a new unit.

Friggin Rip Off! Before placing the order I had a look myself, and replaced a small part. It now is in full working order.

How much did it cost to repair? $1.30 Aus, plus the time and fuel to drive 2klm to the local **** Smith store to buy a new fuse. Not ONE of them checked or suggested checking the fuse in the US to Aus electricity plug converter, not one of them! Of course that is all it was, a blown fuse.

What a bunch of rip off merchants!

Write this same letter, with a few more details to Consumer affairs. (Removing naughty words like **** Smith. :) )

If these guys get enough complaints something will be done.

Otherwise keep shopping around. Once you find a good honest electrician/plumber/mechanic they are like gold.

A few years ago my car had transmission problems (auto), so I took it to three local mechanics to get a quote.
Two said I would need a totally new transmission ($2000 upwards), and the third said I needed a replacement kickdown valve ($15). I went for the third guy, and the car has run like a kitten for many years since.

grayham the problem is there is no one in Australia that we know of who is specifically trained in the repair of this system. So we are reliant on either sending it to the US or utilising medical monitoring equipment repair services here and hope they get it right.

But seriously - no one suggesting it was a flamin little fuse.

I can say we would not have been impressed had we purchased the new unit - waited for it to arrive - then plugged it in to find it didn't work either. All cause of a little fuse.
