What intrigues me is my mate put $10 on Daniel Rich at 10-1 to win the award and he has been paid!! WTF?

Most bookies closed betting on the winner weeks ago. He is unbackable and rather than have him at $1.10 and pay out on that they make more money if they pay out and then have a market on the place getters. All they are doing is cutting their losses and trying to make it bacl elsewhere. Its not uncommon for bookies to do this.

Thanks, I was most bewildered. I guess it's a smart move by them in this instance.

Just out of curiosity.

What if the impossible happens and he doesn't win?

Bookies have opened a "who will come second in the Rising Star (who's the favourite after Rich)" book, so if Rich doesn't win (only way this can happen is if he gets suspended for an incident in tomorrow nights match), they will pay out upon this betting.

well its not actually that impossible, To qualify for the NAB AFL Rising Star nomination, a player must be under 21 years of age as at January 1 of that year, must not have played more than 10 games to the start of that season and must not have been suspended by the AFL or State League tribunals during the season.

he might go the bump.

corey mckernan polled the most votes for the rising star award in 1994 but was ineligible due to getting suspended, from memory he was only suspended twice in 237 games.

What a ridiculous comment after one season. Have a look how some of your better players like Davis, Didak and Swan went in their first seasons. Or are you one of those narrow minded supporters that would've been writing them off already and wanting them delisted. I think anyone can see that most young players take a while to develop properly.

Didak showed plenty in his 1st year.

Yarran has the look of an Ashley Sampi/Damien Cupido to me. Lots of talent but just a space cadet that lacks application.

Could've had Daniel Rich, Jack Zeibell or Steele Sidebottom who've all sown more already and look like they belong at that level.

Keep Wayne Hughes though, he's doing you guys well:rolleyes:

No point arguing the case for Beams, Rich has it by a country mile

However Beamer is a good bet for second...
I'm not arguing for him to win it.. after seeing Raines and Pearce beat H Shaw for it I don't think we need to worry too much.. just happy knowing Beams has more effective disposals than the so called gem of the draft :thumbsu:
