How did you guys rate his performance tonight? I haven't watched the game personally just yet, could he be the missing link in terms of ruckwork which the Saints have always looked to be down on in recent times?

Congratulations on the win as well. :thumbsu:

It was a great debut.

I was impressed. The conditions didn't suit big men.

He got 1 mark, 2 kicks, 3 handpasses, 2 tackles, 14 hitouts and a goal.

The stats mightn't sound impressive, but it was a nice debut.

yeh the hitouts is the key, i see in the future rix as primary ruck with kosi supporting and playing in the forward line. geez rix looked good, played as a tall ruck and i cant believe we won the hitouts 40-39

Best thing about Rix's performance was the effect it had on Ackland. I thought he played his best game for the year last night.

Had to laugh too at Rix chipping in front of Fraser for his first kick. Fraser would have been dirty too given the side of the ground the ball was on. Credit to the big man though, very impressive kick for goal.

Very happy with his debut but I think Sugar did enough last night to show he's not going to give up the #1 spot without a fight.

yeh ackland did have a good game, took two courageous marks which is sumthing i havent seen him do much and played a good game in the ruck. it surprised me that we went in with three ruckman but it seemed to work out alright, dont know if its feasible to do every week and i wonder whos gonna get the boot. blakes been good all year. will be an interesting decision for this friday night against the crows

I guess that, against a slow side in a small ground, the 3-ruckmen strategy suited well. But in a normal ground with more spaces against fast-paced opposition, someone of the 3 will be out of the 22 for sure.

Yeah, Acker has obviously realised he has a challenger for the number one ruck spot, and really lifted. Personally I thought Ackland's ruckwork was the best it's ever been, and to take those marks in those conditions was amazing. Ackland was excellent with the little game time he was given.

For the next few games, I can see Rix running with Biglands/Everitt/Fraser/Hille with Ackland either playing CHF with Roo roaming around the ground, or Roo CHF with Ackland roaming.

I just hope that they won't drop Rix after one game...I've got a feeling the only reason they brought him in was so Blake could run with Goodes...

For the Adelaide game, I'd like to see Blake tagging Burton, Rix running with Biglands (both in ruck contests and around the ground), and Ackland playing forward whenever Biglands is rucking, then when Maric comes on he moves to the ruck.

.

Thats what I thought Ackland is a better back up

What game were you watching? Ackland playing his best game for the year??

What a joke. You obvisiously got cought up in the emotion of the win way too much as it is blurring your recolection of the match.

Ackland was woeful. (except for one mark in syd. defence 3rd term.)

Im actually laughing at the fact that you think he played well let alone just average.

He was pathetic last night. And his lack of mental toughness was as evident as ever.

whoa geez tell us what u rly think!! ackland has been poor this yr so it doesnt take much for it to be his best game :P
and he took two great pack marks!! plus his ruck work was more than anything hes produced thus far this yr.

The thing Ackland did was push back into defence and actually made a contest.

I'm delighted for Rix. He was interviewed on MMM straight after the game and his excitement about finally getting a game and playing a role in the victory was fantastic to hear.

I thought he gave us a strong contest around the ground which is exactly what we needed. I'm looking forward to seeing how he goes in the coming weeks in the vastly different conditions of Telstra Dome and the MCG where is far more suited.

Huh?

I don't really like how Ackland plays usually, but you surely gotta reckon his two (not one) great pack marks in defence were nice, and as it has been said, he's been playing so bad lately that what would be considered an average makes it his best game for the season.

Just don't confuse "his best" by "the best on ground".

Not confusing anything mate. I just dont think ackland deserves any accolade by other supporters proclaiming he played his best game for the year when he was till terrible. I think it sends out the wrong image to supporters that dont know better.

He was still terrible? Huh? Did we watch the same game? Why don't you try to go out there and take ackland's spot? We'd see if you can really take those two great pack marks he got. Terrible were some of his other games, in some of which he got just 2 possies.

And... send out the wronf image to who? So I can't say some player has had a better game than he uses to just because I might offend someone?

All this doesn't make sense at all...

Michael Rix has not had a game where we can make a fair assessment of him yet.
His first match was in Sydney in the wet. It was a fair debut, but not necessarily an indication of how he can play.
His second match was against a red hot Adelaide who pulled out their very best tackling game ever. Their pressure on the man with the ball was nothing short of ferocious (something we have been known for in the recent past). His game was compromised because of this (he never had time to even get a single kick away, he had 10 handballs, 5 of which were clangers).

The Hawthorne match should be a good test. We may finally see the real Rix.
