Collingwood has named an experienced line up ahead of the round one match against Adelaide on Saturday 28 March at the MCG.

Josh Fraser, who missed the NAB Cup grand final with tightness in his back, has been named on the ground along with defender Harry O’Brien who has returned from Perth after the passing of his step-father and will play on Saturday afternoon.

Skipper Nick Maxwell will lead the team out in his first regular senior game as captain. He joins experienced veteran Simon Prestigiacomo and young Magpie Nathan Brown to hold up the backline.

The interchange bench contains a host of talent with Leon Davis, Ben Johnson, Dane Swan and Chris Bryan.

With harry, goldsack, cox, toovey and marty all playing we will still have alot of defensive drive

Yep, thats a MM team, Round 1, no first year players, no one who is carrying an injury (ala Fevola).

We will win, no worries now.

Then welcome back Heater and Rocca next week.

adelaide courtesy of that bloke i just quoted

We have a by far more experienced team

WTF MALTHOUSE BEAMS ON EMERGENCY , anyway i dont know how reid is playing , but still fairly experienced side we will have a full side next week

Solid side.....Johnson needs to perform here and now, I don't think I can take many more weeks of his form apart from the West Coast game.

Beams unlucky, deserved to play imo.

Interesting Beams never got a gig

I think BJ or Toovey got the Nod ahead of Beams but I don't know why

And Wood must really be down in someone's estimations, 'cos to displace Bryan shouldnt be all that hard

Well looks like wood is back to the VFL and if he does not get back to the AFL he might be Trade Bait Again

It would've been nice to see Beams or Sidebottom, but they'll get a chance.

I really hope the Cloke, Anthony and Reid forward line can click.

I wouldnt be surprised to see Beams get a last minute call up.

I have more faith in Wood improving. God knows why, probably because he started last year in quite good nick, so I know he has more than he is showing.

not bad still bit mused over beams and toovey being in,but there is 26 weeks to go plenty of time for beams, oh well we should win.

presti needs to keep hentschel on a tight leash

Solid backline even without Heath. Cox rewarded with an excellent pre-season where his rebound was superb.

Bit of a shaky centreline - Toovey deserves the game but still has a lot to prove. When you look at our bench though no problems here.

The Cloke-Anthony-Reid trio gets first dibs. Plenty of pressure for spots with Rocca, Rusling, Macaffer and Dawes in reserve. Reid is the guy I want to see play really well on Saturday above all others.

Dayne Beams will be breathing down Ben Johnson's neck if he doesn't perform this week and beyond.

Good enough team to get up against an inexperienced Crows outfit. Pies by 6 goals.

Trade for what? If he doesn't make it with us, he'll be worth nothing. We'll certainly get bugger all for him.

Goldy would want to perform, me thinks.

I dare say his main perogative of Saturday's game would not be to let Scott Stevens score six goals on him again.

I was sitting front row for the final there last year at AAMI Stadium. I almost ran out and got violent with him. Manning up on an ordinary player isn't that hard is it?!

Bit disapointed with no Beams in the team, but it's still very solid and should get the job done.

I tip a round 3 debut for Beams and/or Steele, Mick tends to enjoy doing these things (e.g. 3 debutants against Richmond in 07, biggish game. Brown vs Pavlich round 1 last year).

Ben Reid named at full forward another interesting one. He hasn't set the world on fire in preseason. Played mainly back in prac games.

Will Reid actually play there? A ploy for JA perhaps? ... and the big question mark, his kicking???

I had a sneaking suspicion Leigh Brown would be our swingman (I hate that term) in front of Reid. Wrong again, I guess.

How can Ben Johnson possibly get a game. He is the most unreliable player in the afl. I have my heart in my mouth every time he gets the ball because of his terrible disposal. he has never hit a target in his life.
would have been much smarter to have had beams in

I think the game tonight shows that our selection committee is too conservative. Carlton blooded a fistful of new players and still won, but even had the game been close, you know that the experience would have been worth while for the team's development.

To put Johnson in after his ordinary last game sends the wrong message. I'm glad Bryan got the job because he played better and shows grit and effort.

I think Goldsack is a good choice against a static Tippett who is good above, but average down below as a tall forward.

If we can't beat Adelaide with Thomson and Johncock out, it doesn't bode well for the season. We should be aiming to destroy Adelaide.

Not impressed.

We're playing against a team supposedly implementing a zone, so let's chuck all our shit decision-makers in there.

And not playing Beams is just plain bad considering his form.

Too right Spicey!!

Conservative is exactly what that squad is.

It's the one thing that really sh!ts me about Mick is his conservative attitude in a lot of things and this squad is a good example of it.

Johnson has no right to be anywhere near that team. Strikes me as a like for like swap for Heater, but geez the Richmond game illustrated how poor skills just can't be accepted in modern footy anymore.

Very disappointing not to see at least one of McCarthy, Beams or Stanley in the team - although as Fu mentioned I got the feeling Beams may be a late inclusion.

Negatives aside i'm really excited to see how Cox, Reid and Anthony go on the weekend. It'll be interesting to see how Reid and Anthony go against probably the best defensive team in the comp and also Cox who'll cop a hell of alot of Adelaides forwardline pressure.

I'm sure this team will get the job done, bring on the game!!!

CARN DA PIES!!!
