Does anyone recall if Rob Wiley has ever applied for a senior coaching position at an AFL club? I was reading another post regarding Wiley remaining at the Eagles as an Assistant for over a decade now - but I don't remember him ever applying for a senior position (or even the vacant position at the end of the 1999 and 2001 season at the club)

to my knowledge he has declined all offers has he not? Just loves the Eagles/WA too much i think.

The club obviously love him too - he's been around for the good years and the Judge years.

I can recall a few occasions in the 90s when he was asked to apply for vacant positions but declined to pursue it.

I vaguely remember an article around that time on Wiley, stating that he was keen to remain in WA and at the Eagles in an assisntant role as he enjoyed the role and didn't want to go for a senior job at that time.

Understandable I guess, perhaps the media scurtiny / pressure etc etc is just simply something he doesn't want for him and his family.

he and bill sutherland are two club legends who often get under the guard and have both been committed to the club since day 1. They should be congratulated

Great to see Billy Sutherland singing along with Australian team last Friday, I assume they must have got him in as head trainer.

Read an article Peter Matera wrote on him a while back - very highly respected by all it would seem.

On a side note in relation to Bill Sutherland, I reckon your fairest & best trophy (un-named at the moment) would sound good with Bill's name on it. He has been there from day 1, hasn't missed a game and he is not involved in the "politics" of the club.

Just a thought.

Not the best and fairest. That should be named after a player. The best clubman award (or something similar) would be good though.

Agreed....

Thinking about it someone like Jakovich would be perfect once he retires.

Not only has he won the best and fairest 4 times but I do not believe he has ever been suspended. I even wonder if he was ever cited.

My comment mentioned politics, if you name any award after a recent player, comparisons are made and comments like, "why Jako, why not Kemp, Woosha, Matera, McKenna etc" are heard.

By naming the B & F after a standout club servant you eliminate the favouritism or political angle.

Anyway it was just a thought.

Yes he was cited and suspended for slapping Croady. Then we appealed, got out the old Oxford Dictionary, which said a strike was with full force bla bla, and he got off.
