Just on Rob Shirley i would like to really applaud him for the way he has come back after being delisted & then being re-drafted this year,
He was always a hard in/under type player & played the game as fearlessly as anyone but the main criticism i (& others) had of Rob in previous years was that his disposal would often let him down & at times was slow to make decisions when in possession of the ball,
Well in my opinion he has worked hard on those faults & definitely deserves his place on the Crows list & will become a regular starter in our first 22 for many a year to come,

Well done Rob your a credit to your self & all who believed in you,

As I said on another thread, Ayres' ability to see something in these guys and give them time is amazing.

Shirley has been a real pleasant surprise. In my mind gone from a back up tagger to useful trade bait to a future Crows in and under player in a matter of a month! I hope the lad keeps it up.

He has been rewarded with some very solid form for most of the year with the EAGLES.

He was always going to be redrafted and is makin the most of his opportunities.

I'm hoping we get him back for the SANFL finals though!

I think I've mentioned my delight with Shirley's recent form in a couple of other threads. :D

As for his apparent poor disposal. Well his handballing out of packs has been just fine. However I don't think his kicking has really been tested.

He played a great game yesterday and Im sure Harvey was only "quoted" as best player because of his name.
Thought Shirley held his own well.

Good Post Noddy

His game was better than Harvey's IMO. Harvey mainly got the easy ball given to him, while Shirley's game was very Bickley like the way he won hard balls and was always in and under.

As for his use of the ball, very good. Stuffed up a handball that should have brought a goal in the last quarter, but overall, first class.

OK, all those people travelling on the Hang Sh*t on Shirley Bus...prove!

*steps forward*

Yeah, I'm one of the ones that thought he was not good enough. I always hope I am wrong when I say that about an AFC player, and I am glad that Shirley has proved me wrong in the last month and a bit. His commitment has been exemplary, and I know I speak for a few people when I say I hope he becomes a Bickley like player....quite timely really. Kudos to the coaching staff for sticking with the guy, when people (some would say ill informed clowns) like myself were calling for his head.

On that handball, I am sure the 'killer' instinct in front will surface when he begins to feel more confident and sure of his place in the scheme of things.

Cheers,

Kasey

yeah, ray, ah, rob's been going a tops job...
with the freo game when he got knocked out, i had a feeling it would effect the game... he's a good kid and i can see the team getting a lot out of him in the future...

The kid has still to kick a goal in the AFL and I was hoping he was going to Sunday with that opportunity. Must learn to become selfish when the big sticks beckon.

Good to have a player go in and get the leather.
