Thought this was a fair article by Walls.

There's been a fair amount of criticism of Clarke etc, but this is far more balanced assessment. Lack of pace thru the middle. Backline under pressure & Gehrig being sucked up the ground.

I agree with Walls, that even though his opponent runs off G up the ground, he should stay forward. We seem to get the clearance from the backline then gehrig's gotta run back to receive ... I just don't see that working, not now ... not ever!!

I was listening to 3AW at the game and in the pre-game, Walls and all the other commentators were talking up the Saints like you wouldn't believe. One comment they made that stood out was that the Saints defence is now one of their greatest strengths. I couldn't believe my ears when I heard that. For so long our defence has been our Achilles Heel and to me it's still our biggest weakness.

When the Dogs began running all over the Saints after the 1st quarter, the commentators did a 360 and changed their tune completely, saying how slow the Saints looked all over the ground, etc etc etc.

We lost the game in the middle, simple as that. If you are second to the ball, you are always going to look slow in comparison to the opposition.

I think we will be a fair chance against Geelong this weekend as we go in as overwhelming underdogs. In recent years I reckon the Saints have believed their own hype. It's nice, since for so many years we've been the whipping boys of the competition. We all know St Kilda have been underachievers in recent years. I reckon we play best when no one expects us to win, so I hope the boys really pull the finger out this weekend and give us something to smile about.

The criticism of Ball is like a bleating record. Yes, the carried injury and should not have played last year. But he is definitely in better shape this year and contributing more.

I also think Walls wants to take Max out the back and put him out of his misery. The bloke has played three high quality games in a row in beating the Spaz, the Shag, and Welsh.

Spot on with Maxy H. His closing speed would still be in the top 3 in the comp.

Can we just rename him closing speed? Yes it is a strength but that is not it. I am so sick of reading it in every thread (not necessarily from you)!

Yeah but the point I'm making about it is it's great to see he still possesses it after all the hamstring injuries.
