Just heard that Rocca isn't playing. A definite ommission for tomorrows game. Would he have been a liability in the heat and expanses of Fremantle? OR would he have stretched our young key position backman?

His wife Enza just had a little girl, They called her Mia. I saw 'Pebbles' in a traffic jam near Footscray Station waiting for my bus to Uni, the same day he was in the Herald Sun, page 3

Now no Buckley, Clement, Rocca - so I assume the next vice-captain remaining to actually take over the leadership tomorrow is Lockyer?

He was easily in our best 6 last week, giving Milne a "bath". It will be interesting to see if he has enough presence to cajole/inspire/take-to-a-new-level his young troupe tomorrow.

Is Lockyer a leader?

Lockyer is a vice-captain, and has been since a young age in the top of the league, so his leadership skills are on his resume.

I hear you LFF, but it is one thing to be a faithful luietenant [sp?] and another to actually take the hard-nosed lead. Last year in the Bucks/Rocca gap, MM said at first in the papers that Clement and Locks would share the gap, but I don't think Lockyer did ever get to captain. Could be wrong. Not sure if he has ever yet taken point?

Nah, he didn't, but yeah, when Malthouse said that, i guess you can look back on it and wonder why Tarks didn't get atleast one gig. I guess we just wait and find out :p

I called for this at the start of the week, glad its happened.

They were running rings around him when the ball hit the deck last week, imagine it at Subi?

Plus I dont want him being overworked at this stage of the season.

I'm probably over-reading things but usually the vice captain and captain sits closest to the coach in the team photo. This has been the case in the last few years since I got the team poster. Molloy (2002)/Clement(03-06), Rocca, Buckley and Lockyer have all sat near the coach, this time Lockyer is not. Perhaps he is not a VC anymore? ;)

Jabs, I too may have missed the official pronouncements of c, vc, dvc (and we must be one of the last clubs to still use that kind of old hierarchy of leadership?). Frankly Rocca sticks out a paw at CHF and folk follow - not sure if that's good or bad - but they lift; Clem - who I think is just fantastic - I last saw him bark at someone else in our backline in round 1 05 vs Dogs....before he embarrassed himself by bouncing the ball through for a point before he'd even kicked off. This is gentleman Jim. Tarks strikes me similarly as all heart as with Clemo and lead by their quiet example. Both strike me as great role models. I will enjoy seeing Tarks have a go. But I suspect the next captain will need to come from outside this gentleman grouping?

We actually don't name deputy vice captains.
The way it has been since MM has been here (well most of the time) is 1 captain and 3 vice captains.
In 2003, I think, when Buckley, Clement and Lockyer were not playing Eddie said Fraser and Tarrant were the deputy Vice Captains for the game, but I don't think we actually have them.

Got to give the future captain of the side a chance, Tarrant won't be a future captain (IMHO)...give a go to Rhyce Shaw ;) :p

Collingwood has already announced its leadership group for 2006.

I remember reading it...

C: Bucks

VC: Rocca, Clement

DVC: Fraser

No Rocca, No Tarrant. Would have thought these two should get as much game time as possible.

Leons doing well.:)
