Play both Rocca and Dawes and send Anthony down back.

Heck keep em all up there. Cloke Rocca and Dawes. I do like the idea of so many tall forward options... Although not having a lot of footy history knowledge im sure this sort of thing could cause its own issues.

One particular incident convinced me he is still unsure exactly where he fits in the scheme of things. I think either Lockyer or Shaw cut of a pass meant for Dawes. Dawes pulled up, possibly conceding "seniority", but a Rocca type player would have taken the grab and cleaned up our other player at the same time....This is purely a confidence, how do I fit and what is my job issue...I have experienced it before myself when starting at a new club or the first couple of games up a grade. you tend to concede to the established players until a certain point and suddenly your there and a part of the team and god help anyone who cuts off your lead or infringes your space. I am sure some of the ex-players on the board know exactly what I mean. Jack Anthony suffered from it to an extent early but last week really demanded the ball and patrolled "his turf".
It was Lockyer, I took notice at the time but to be honest I don't think Dawes really pulled up. It was more that Lockyer was hanging around in Dawes' leading space, which you wouldn't do in front of Rocca unless you wanted one-way trip to the morgue.

Would having Rocca in the team be more benefical to the teams chances of winning than Dawes?
Tough choice really. On one hand you have a kid that hasn't done much but looking to prove himself and on the other you have a proven forward who hasn't played or hardly trained in 12 weeks.
You'd think they would only include Rocca if they were confident that he could be of service to the team but last time he returned he injured himself again and we had to play out the game without him. It would be game over if he went down against the Hawks and we had to play with 21. Is the risk worth taking?

This is all hypothetical as we still have to beat the saints this week.

You do know what I mean though....
The first night at training at a new club you tend not to take out the gun midfielder in a tackle or chuck a massive hanger off the top of the CHF's head.
It takes a while and a bit of acceptance before you try these things.

Anthony is there right now and Dawes went a way towards it in Adelaide, but, as the incident in question shows, he is not quite there yet...this week perhaps.

Get him right for next year.

at the beginning of the year i was saying that i am looking forward to rocca missing a few games (not finals tho, we still need the big guy).

but i said it because i wanted to see how collingwood's future looks without rocca...and i like what i currently see.

that said, if rocca goes on next year - dawes and reid arent 100% ready to take the reigns yet and his service would be invaluable

Rocca eyes Prelim return.

Rocca's saying he's no chance for this week, but some chance if we get past the Saints. He also recognises that our current forward set-up is working well and that there may not be a spot for him.
I'm glad he realises that our forward line has been doing well!!
Who would we take out?

Good idea.
If we could play DAWES,ROCCA,CLOKE up forward, and have the ability to move Anthony to the backline, this could work well simply because if things weren't working we could move Anthony forward again and confuse the hawks,if we made it that far.

Remember CROAD is their biggest and best backman, and if the hawks have aweakness it's their backline.
Also CROAD is injured, and most likely will play at about 80% capacity,so if he goes down Roughead will have to go to the backline then the hawks will have problems, because not only will thier backline be stretched but the move will throw their forward line out.
Could work to our favour,as long as we can stop their midfield's supply out of the middle.

Even without match fitness Rocca is a pretty safe inclusion. You woulnd't see Dawes double or triple teamed too often but Rocca would be immediately. Even if he doesn't get many possies he stretches their defense opening up much more opportunity for Trav and Dawes, and is a powerful and threatening contested mark beyond what Dawes is currently capable of. Dawes is quite mobile so as a tall wound't slow down the forward line much. ANthony is really improving and showed last week he could play in the middle as well as in defense - great evasive skills - so there's no need to drop any of the current forwards if Rocca is brought in. Who to actually drop, that's another question but there'd be a few candidates - maybe goldy on current form for example and Cook has been pretty good but replacable for Burns - ditto McCArthy.
