Rumour Rodney Eade as Assistant Coach

COLLINGWOOD remains in the market for at least one more coach with Rodney Eade believed to be a potential support for Nathan Buckley, who it was revealed yesterday will be joined by former Adelaide premiership player Ben Hart next year.

Eade would be an outstanding assistant, would LOVE it.

I'd have him if he were available. If the Saints get him, then that's fine too, because we would keep Watters.

I think it's just a matter of us covering our bases.

Mick might come back from his Switzerland holiday refreshed and drop in occasionally, without any formal arrangements. Let's wait and see how it all pans out!

Never liked the bloke, the Dogs should have at least made one grand final, if not won one with the side they had.

I don't rate him, experience is not everything, success is more important IMO, and he has had none as a coach.

Plus, it seemed he absolutely hated our guts, every time we would beat them, he'd cry like a stuck pig. I remember one time him screaming after the match that Leon had taken a mark out of bounds, it was hilarious.

There's plenty of other options out there, I'd prefer Dean Laidley, who although he has had no success either, did a stellar job with the shoestring budgeted Kangas, and he already knows Bucks having been an assistant when Mick first came to us.

It's not as if the Bulldogs were overflowing with money either though. I think he did a great job, maybe should have made a grand final but was unlucky as well. Before last year you would have said Mick had no success as a coach with Collingwood when it came to winning Premierships. There is no doubt that Eade as an assistant would be exceptional and I'm sure that hate would dissipate once our name is on his pay cheque

I know it isn't the penultimate success, but he does have the best win/loss ratio in the league. Or at least he did haha.

I hate the bloke, he is a dud coach and also hates us with a passion. I would be a very angry fan If we got him. Id rather Laidley or maybe get Leigh Mathews back at the club.

Gary Ayres is a strange one, just coached Port Melbourne to the perfect season, and would be dying for another chance at AFL level, even as a mentor type coach.

Eade would be well down my list, god I hope this rumour is wrong.

There is no way MM is going to be an assistant coach, there is a HUGE difference between Director of Coaching and Assistant...

As for Eade, he would be a gun assistant, such experience in an assistant coach is hard to find. Remember he lead the Bulldogs to countless finals and prelims, yes they didn't win a flag, but that doesn't mean anything, he was still very successful and would be a huge asset.

Agree with this, the under-resourced clubs will never win a flag in the current climate (and I love it). Our list and our coaching staff at North Melbourne might finish top 4, but would not win a premiership.

People who say they would rather Malthouse are delusional. He will not act in a coaching capacity with Bucks. Neither party would want it.

And people who discard Eade because he 'only' took them to several prelims and not the big one, a) MM came within a crooked bounce of not having a flag with us himself, and b) show me how many premiership coaches are queueing up to be Buck's assistant.

Eade would be outstanding.

Following that, I would look at Neil Craig (slim chance though).

His stupidity in not trying Lake up forward ruined his chances. By the 2009 season should have had a key forward anyway though really

I don't know, Eade could do the job but yeah, I guess if Buckley wanted him then it's obviously what he thinks is right for him and the side. I'm not sure it'll happen however.
