I think his standing as an elite coach has taken a battering. I am not a coach or tactition, just a long time broken doggies supporter. He came out weeks ago saying hawthorn was our main concern and during our poor form over the last 2 months gave crap excuses but I had faith he was going to come up with something special coming in to the finals.Been sprouting the dogs at work and everywhere I went that you'll see us at our best but again like the last 40 years I have to face everyone with my tail between my legs. Geez I feel bad

I agree.

He was talking it up for 7 weeks or so about how we are preparing for Hawthorn and this is the best we could come up with?

I really dont know where he is taking this club anymore. May be time for both parties to part ways.

I thought he was comprehensively out coached tonight.
Our players looked absolutely lost.

They were an absolute rabble (especially in the midfield) and Hawthorn's game plan was clear while our's was non-existent.

The fact that we did not even fire a shot tonight was the most disappointing.........

Rightly or wrongly, I think his future will be linked with the result of next weeks game.

If we go out in straight sets, questions will be asked by the board, and the coach could be the one who is in the firing line.

If we win next week then get beaten by Geelong, I think he would be seen to have done well this year and safe for next year at least.

So, a lot depends on next week IMO. Funny how it can all come down to just one game to determine the destiny of a coach. Although, if we go out in straight sets, I don't think it will be just Eade who feels the pressure. Some of the players may be purged as well.

In fairness to Rocket, he's also the same coach who had us only losing one game in our first 15 or so. What can he do? He can't make our mids go in harder or tackle harder. I think given the time over again he'd handle a situation like our last 7 weeks differently. The responsibilty here has to be taken by the players, coaching staff, recruitment staff and possibly fitness staff as well. Did he know we'd struggle tonight but optimistically hoped we'd find something? Who knows? What we perceive to happen at a footy club is probably vastly different to what actually happens in the inner sanctum.

Yea T.B.F.B think your spot on, Adelaide won their final after a beating,so maybe we can come back, if not him and a few players will be nervous

To be honest though HD(and this will sound defeatist), I don't think we are that good. I don't think we are a second or third team. I think our ladder placing flattered us a bit. Maybe we are a 5th to 8th best team. So maybe eade did well to get us where he did. But IMO next week will have a huge influence on what happens to Eade. Not so much for us the supporters, but from the board.

If we go out in straight sets, there will be a big purge. Could be coach, players, assistants or whoever. But there is no way the board will keep the same status quo.

like most of you, i am in shock.... in fact, too much in shock to be angry to be honest. i cant believe they served up that rubbish tonight on such an important occasion

i am trying to be positive, but am finding it difficult !

4 main points -

Akka on the backline to start the game ? - Why coach so negatively? surely we are out to win the game, not defend it, so i cant comprehend why akka was played out of the back half for the first quarter- to me, thats just conceding defeat already

Hardness and exerting a physical presence? - Non existent, and tackeling was soft as usual, and no mongrel and desperation yet again

Brian Lake and Morris - Practically let buddy walk all over them both - didnt assert any aggression - didnt give any aggression or intimidation back to franklin, but just conceded defeat and played timid and gutless!

Hodge ? - all week, we hear in the media that he will play lose in defence, and yet Eade let him roam free again and didnt make him accountable/ Why ??

I can swallow defeat, but to not have a crack and play with such a defeatest attitude is unexcusable if you ask me

Oh well, next week !

cheers

Sure Eade made some tactical errors tonight but what do you do against players the quality of Franklin, Roughead, Hodge and co. I doubt the best coach in the business would have had been able to make much difference.

Surely the lack of drafting quality talls over the last no. of years is of bigger concern.

yr right mate, but i was more concerned with the 1 % ers that are yet again lacking ! I can take defeat from a more talented team , but to not even do the 1 % ers like forward pressure, tackeling and being hard at the contest really annoys me !

Not the sharpest tool in the shed ,but didn't Eade start coaching and took over our list before Clarkson and their match winners could have been picked up by us?

Thought the coaching was very negative from the start with Aker down back and Cross going down there to float in front off Buddy. This kind off negative coaching must have an influence on the players. Players seemed to be more mind full off Hawthorn and not the ball.

aker in defence is no good
and lake is a disgrace at CHB can only play FB
but my main worry is why all of a sudden we playin like the peter rhode days of handballin to a guy who is in a worst position than u ????

Just made it you're been mentioned on Finey's final siren;)

If we drafted Buddy. Two major problems would be solved.

1. We'd have a dominant tall forward.
2. We'd have a major sponsor - guaranteed.

Massive mistake.

Couldn't believe the bolded part.

Surely our most experienced player in terms of finals, a three time premiership player would be given a more important role than a negating one on a small forward.

Then when Eade finally threw him forward in the second he was involved in two goals in the first couple of minutes he was down there.

Opens up that old chestnut. Griffen or Franklin. As much I think Griff is a fantastic player and will continue to be, Franklin is out of this world and would make a huge difference to our team.

If you only lose 1 game in the first 3/4 of a season you must be doing something right so why change the formula. Early in the season we took chances, so why are we playing re-active football now? Ray is not up to it, Akka should be in the middle, and what was Johno doing at full back. I saw Hawthorn destroy us in the 61 GF and what I saw tonight was 61 re-visited. The Doggies limped into 3rd and on tonights performance they will go out without a whimper.

Good question but maybe we peaked fitness and skills wise too early due to our hard pre-season. Our skills at the moment are second-rate.

agree with you wian.akker in the tagging role doesnt work.esp on a pacy player. remember when the lions tried using him to tag judd at the gabba?? he got killed for pace.when you went forward you had nobody to kick to.eade was more worried about not losing than he was about winning.your only chance was to win a shootout.you dont have the height and muscle to win a defensive game.why worry so much about buddy??? worry about getting the ball forward and worry about having targets when you get it thereif you kicvk more goals you win.your players looked apathetic and listless.there was no gut running no desperate tackling.sorry bullies fans but cooney is just that!! A BULLY. when its tough and desperate hes not to be seen .you must go into finals in form.this crap about "WE'RE ALREADY IN THE FINALS WE DONT HAVE TO WORRY" is utter crap.eade is a softc##k coach.hes never toughened up a side.now is the time when you need a malthouse or a worsfold to toughen up a rrrreasonable list.roos could probably win you a premiership.mmmmmmmm.good luck youll need it

Maybe that flattered us a bit. We won some close games, came back from the dead against Richmond, Bock missed after the siren etc etc.

Maybe we are with the rest of the pack behind Geelong and Hawthorn. If we don't bring our A game along, we are terribly exposed.

I posted this a few days ago in another thread and I stand by it.

The last few weeks have been practice matches for us. The only thing we haven't gained is momentum. The coaching staff and Eade in particular have really put their balls on the line.

If (and I say IF) we lose Friday and then don't progress further into the finals I think there may be a few of the non playing group seeking alternative employment next year.

On top of what happened last year the next few weeks will make or break a few coaching careers.

Note: I am not critical the fact that our focus has been finals for the last 4 weeks infact I think it makes alot of sense. I do however feel that the shit will hit the fan if it doesn't pay off.

The next 3-4 weeks will either make Eade a coaching genius or possibly end his coaching career. Right or wrong that's how the world works.

P.S. Don't give me any of the "He has a contract" nonsense.

no - he spoke good sense actually !

especially his comments on akka and our hardness at the contest - Akka - played out of position in the first quarter, and we were smashed in the midfield and we basically conceeded defeat with negative footy from the first bounce...

this game makes me think back to 1997 when we played the swans in the qualifying final

Everyone was scared about stopping tony lockett for the swans, but the simple answer to that was to stop the ball getting to him by winning the midfield and reducing the supply ! Which is what we did in 1997 - and we smashed them !

Sadly, the same philosophy was what i was hoping for tonight, but it went out the window from the first bounce if u ask me !
