I hope the club goes after him. He is the sort of acquisition we need to bolster the coaching team. Do you think it is possible? Would it work with Harves & Rocket in the same box?

And he gets his farewell game against us :-(

If by some fluke of nature we win this week, I bet you the doggies get up and win in the last round for Rocket and cost us a place in the 8!

Doubt he'd be accepting an asst. role when Adel, Melb, Port, hell even Hawks with Clarko uming and ah'ing, all seeking head coach answers.

I thought that might be the case. However, if we pay him enough, an assistant role might be a welcome change for him.

no harm in trying. he'd be exactly the kind of person we'd need in the box. might make harvs a bit nervous, though.

Yep terrible year to be trying to find a good assistant. Pity we couldn't convince Bassett. I'd like to get Scott Waters, but I think he is wanting to stay at the pies.

I reckon it's a great year. Sacked coaches means a whole lot of assistants with uncertain futures. Some may put their hand up to be a senior coach and get knocked back. Others may not feel ready to be a senior coach and want a new experience at a new club.

The Dogs have made the prelims three years in a row, there must be valuable experience there we can poach.

Nice thinking. I like it. Who's worthwhile poaching though? Not just at the Dogs, but at Adelaide, Melbourne. Wouldn't touch Port with a barge pole.

Being a student of the game...got any specific asst coaches in mind Clay or others ??
From this lot: Peter Dean or Paul Williams would be worth an interview. Have experience as assistant coaches (at the Dogs for three years). Well credentialed as players (premierships, 200+ games experience). It is highly likely at least one of them would have something to offer.

I'm thinking the opposite will be true.

New coaches will want new coaching teams. There are always 'jobs for the boys' when a new senior coach arrives on the scene. As such, out-of-contract assistants who feel vulnerable, will be open to hear offers from other clubs.

Also, other assistant coaches that get knocked back for the 3 available senior positions would probably look elsewhere for experience to improve their chances next time.

I would say that Melbourne is his only chance for the senior job. Adelaide will go with Bickley, Port cant afford to sack Primus and Clarkson and Lyon will stay at their respective clubs.

He would be an awesome addition to our coaching staff but I would say he is going to score the Melbourne job. Also dont know about his family situation but judging by his age he could have responsibilities in Melbourne.

I think he would be fantastic for Freo, but I reckon having him on the coaching panel in any form can only undermine Harvey's position. A bit like when Harvey came over, the media basically viewed it as him being a back-up for if/when CC was sacked.

The only way I can see us being in the running is if Harvey walks, and I don't think that will happen. Nor do I want it to happen.

Paul Williams would be good, teach our midfield and forwards a thing or two. Would be good for Hill and Morabito if they could emulate the way he played.

Can a mod delete this post - its pathetic - we have a coach contracted to the end of next year.

Eade would not be an assistant at Freo!

Would be great to grab Paul Williams I reckon. Hard running, committed player. And he's a forward line coach... just what we need!

That was my first thought - forget him as a coaching optiomn, that scenario may well cost us a game if not finals. They will go from just counting down the hours before mad monday to playing for a big send off. Bloody annoying.

He's been shit at two clubs in a row now.

Very sceptical on Eade as a coach.

I am too. I wouldn't say he's be 'shit' though. He's been pretty good, but not quite good enough. I can't see him operating as an assistant, and there's probably better options out there anyway for assistant role - and I'd stick with Harves over Eade at this stage of things too if that were an option.

Personally I like the sound of Nathan Bassett who's been doing a great job in the SANFL.

Cuddles left the job a year after making a prelim. Harvey at this point is travelling probably worse than cuddles was when he quit. He just has the excuse of injuries.

We need backup because if we aren't going to make the finals next year then Harvey needs to be given his marching orders.

Malthouse having Buckley looking over his shoulder hasnt hurt Collingwoods chances. It doesnt really matter who we get, either more assistants or a senior mentor.
Paul Roos would be great in a consulting role when we travel over east, if we are ever to get to a grand final, must learn how to win at the MCG.
The first thing is to recognise we have a problem.

Agree with Belnakor and blue shark. Getting in highly rated assistant coaches goes one of two ways - it improves the side and Harvey keeps his job (and brings us closer to a premiership), or it doesn't work and we have a possible coach in waiting to takeover (though if Harvey was to go at the end of next year, I would hope Freo throws all its weight behind a quality senior coach, not another rookie).
