People,

As much as I admire the great Mark Ricciutto (he's probably my favorite player in the AFL), I can't help but wonder if he didn't single handedly cost us this year's flag.

There's no doubt in my mind that with Roo on the field we would have won that St. Kilda game and from there on, beaten our next opponent. At the very least we would have been in the GF.

As Captain, he should have known better. I'm sure deep down he is thinking this too.

Thoughts?

We dont need him to win games, remember we cant rely on him forever. Thats a stupid statement to make that he cost us the flag. If we were good enough we would have won. Tell me who was on Harvey, Del Santo anf Gwilt that night. Would Roo dog covered them all????

Rubbish. We have been told this year by NC that no one is indispensible, and it was because of this fact that he bought in the mid field rotation to get less talented 'backbone' players to stand up. He has carried this side for the last couple of years practically on his own. Big call I know.

What if he was injured, could you say the same thing? NO WAY JOSE.

What a ridiculous statement. There is no way Roo cost us the flag.

The AFL cost us the flag by allowing those cheats, West Coast, to beat us. We should be playing in the GF next Saturday which we would win easily as we have won back to back flags.

Disagree. IMO it yet again highlighted the fact that once you go past our first 18, there are only a few promising kids and hell of alot of rubbish.

We should not have even been in the finals if we lose a game becuase of the loss of one player.

Agreed. Makes it worse considering that the Saints were missing almost their entire back line (Maguire, Penny and Hudghton) AND Kosi. You would have thought we could have got over them even with Roo's absence.

No it didn't help. But neither did the poor skills displayed by the guys who did play against the Saints, and their poor 2nd quarter.

At the end of the day, as a group, they weren't good enough this year. Time to take a break, load up & go again next year.

mods

this thread is bull******** please ban it

did anyone watch the brownlow ? was that not the most amount of top notch players who were ineligible ???

they reaplayed most of them and I have to say it made me think twice about following AFL next year - they were disgraceful suspensions not worthy of even being looked at - Marks was the same - if anyone cost us a chance at the flag it was the tribunal - however there are many player (Byron aside of course :D ) that would/could have the same issue

I like the system they have implemented - they just need to get some common sense into it

Or you can take the half full approach and say that we never would have had a shot at the flag, had it not been for some of Roo's fantastic performances. It goes both ways.

We can't blame Roo for the fact that we "choked" against a greatly undermanned St Kilda side at our home ground. True Roo is a great and inspirational leader but there were a lot of other senior players out there.

Yep, he probably did. The AFL needs to keep the thugs out of this game so justice has been served.

Rubbish. A home prelim doesn't guarantee a Grand Final berth, let alone a flag. Just look at St Kilda. They won that game yet got no further than us. Preliminary Finals and Grand Finals are the toughest games to win in a season yet people are suggesting all we had to do was turn up and we would have won them. The simple fact was we played poorly on preliminary final day. That is the sole reason we are not in the Grand Final.

I gota admit that that thought went through my mind also.
IMO we may have beaten St Kilda if he played, But hindsight is the cloudyest 20/20 there is, I would be a millionare if I invested in Microsoft in 1983, Did my bad judgment at that time stuff up my life?? I dont think so.

Roo was not the only person missing that day. Bock dropping out before the game didn't help . Losing trent to the back line took away from our possible ability tostretch their undermanned backline. If Bock was there and Hentschell forward would the midfield have been such a big issue?

Its not that i rate Bock and Roo in the same league its that on that night Bock was very importaqnt for team structure.

Hmmm! I was just browsing with casual interest and had no intention of posting on this thread. But mate you deserve what I think is coming.
Roo is hard as nails but thug he is not. One stupid moment in countless inspirational games. I can't believe this sort of post from a supporter of a club that has Greg Stafford, a man who is almost clinically evil in his repeated inflicting of injury.

Good call Drakey....Roo missing didn't help and I'm sure he could have rallied the troops when they fell asleep in that 2nd qtr, but if we weren't good enough to beat an undermanned St Kilda ( who are suspect in finals), on our home turf after finishing on top of the ladder, then we deserved to finish where we finished.

It was a cowardly blow, I'm glad the AFL doesn't stand for this crap. Do you really want to see concussions and possibly deaths like in American football?
Thugs out

how about scrimes out of the adelaide board, forever....i'd call u an imbecile but u wldn't know the meaning, so idiot will have to do

WOW!

Ha ha ha ha ha ha.... funny how sensitive people are on this board. Gosh, make one semi-negative comment about a club legend and people are calling for the thread to be banned, saying it's rubbish, etc.

People, c'mon... it's not like I'm saying Roo is crap. I love the guy but let's be honest here. If he was in the game, I have no doubt we would have won - although that's only my opinion. Nevertheless, it's a legitimate opinion and question for discussion.

But geez, calm down everybody.
