At present Carlton have pick one in the rookie draft yet no youngsters other than Jake and Tommi appear to be training with us. If we take one or both of these guys it will be later in the draft. So my question is who do you think we should or will pick with pick 1 in the rookie draft? Also does anyone have any inside information on who we might be interested in for our rookie picks?

My vote goes to Nathan Batsanis. We've recruited athlete types, now ìts time we'recruited some more natural footballers with good skills. Batsanis has reasonable pace, kicks goals and has a very penetrating kick.

Also what would your ideal rookie draft look like (within the relms of possibility)? I think we have four picks.

P.S Can someone please comfort me by saying that we won't use our number one pick on a recyled hack like Cam Cloke.

Batsanis gets my vote, his kicking is outstanding. We don't have many players who can kick 55m+.

He might get taken by another club in pre-season draft.

Batsanis has been approached by more than one club and told he is a chance in the pre season draft.

If we get him id be pretty happy.

Dean Kelly and Leigh Adams are the other two i would love to get.

Who knows what Hughes will do after the ND.

We already had the athletic outside running types in Walker and Russel and he goes and picks up similar type players in Grigg and Benjamin.

I have said all along we need some hardness around stoppages (another Ratten or Williams). I would probably go for Leigh Adams and Jake Williams.

He went for pace and height - which is a very common attribute of the top 50 players. Im sure he knows exactly what he was doing with each pick!

The pace on the outside well only assit Murphy, Gibbs, Bentick, Blackwell!

What he is doing is a matter of opinion, how I would like to see my team developed is my opinion.

Not saying they wont be good players I just think you can have to many of those type. Bentwick is a handy inside player at best and Blackwell -although showing signs may not make it. Murphy and Gibbs are a combination of in/ out mids.

We have a stack of outside mids - ball carriers now. Lappin, Houlihan, Walker, Russel, Simpson, Stevens, Benjamin, Grigg, Jackson

We also have alot of potential KP players.

IMO we should be going inside mids and rucks in the PSD and Rookie.

I would be happy with Ackland, Stephenson in PSD and Adams, Williams and another developing ruck in the rookie

LEIGH ADAMS...........coz LEIGH ADAMS = SAM MITCHELL

***IF CARLTON CHOOSES EITHER WILLIAMS OR JOHNSTONE BEFORE ADAMS THEY ARE A JOKE...Leigh Adams was the captain of Victoria and played extremely well for them, on the other hand our father son's could not even make Victoria Metro...enough said.

Any chance of Jesse Smith getting rerookied?

Seemed pretty stranged to give him two games later in the season and then drop him. He is physically ready and could provide some competition and backup to Bentick. Another thing to remember is he missed preseason last year because of a shoulder injury. Also it seems like some of these guys we are talking about rookie-ing sound like Smith two years ago...any other thoughts? Was he just not up to it or unlucky?

I would love to see it happen, but I highly doubt it.

What do you think the clubs thinking was on dropping him? Maybe the thought they would play him to games and see if he sinks or swim....pretty harsh if so.

His development seems to parallel Bentick's pretty closely and he was retained.

No idea. The fact that they only played him for a minimal amount of time says to me they saw something they didn't like.

Yes it looks like the blues will be taking Cam Cloke. If you had to pick between the brothers,Jason would be the one to pick.Cam would be ok but he has already had 3 shoulder recos, that's why we delisted him. He'll probably play for 2 games and be out for 6.At least jason gives you 110% and would help strengthen your backline. But hey what do i know,i'm not Dennis Pagan.

Does Fremantle have a PSD pick? if so i would say they'd probably take kelly, if not then he's one we could consider. not the most athletic type, buta very natural and talented footballer (a common theme amongst rookie listed players). could end up being a hard in and under player or an agressive nuggety foward pocket type player, as he would beat anyone his size 1-out in a marking contest

from what I saw when he came into the Seniors, didn't impress. Compared to the time Ryan Jackson had his game against the Swannies it was 'chalk and cheese. Smith looked slow and 'unaware' of his surroundings, wheras Jackson looked very promising. Would not think we would re-rookie.

It would be great to see Rob Eddy get drafted to the blues. Not lightning speed and immaculate skills but a very solid player with great leadership and ball winning ability.

Agree with the smith vs Jackson debut arguement. If you are a rookie and you get a senior game EVERY post needs to be a winner, or at least look like it could be with some time.
If you look lost and wander around like its your first game (ever - not just seniors) then you will be cut.
Tough, but that's life in the AFL.
