Can't believe that Jordie McKenzie didn't rate a mention at the end there?
With rookie picks, there are two ways to look at it; they can be speculative picks, depth picks or they can be the opportunity to unearth somebody if time is invested in them properly.
Unfortunately last year I don't think that Newton, McNamara, Campbell or Johnston were ever realistic chances to be in our top 22.
What I like about this year is the possibility for all of our rookies to break through, perhaps with the exception of Couch. My one biggest concern is why Geelong were prepared to let the likes of Couch and Sheahan float through the system and past them, when obviously they would have known the most about them.
But I do like the way Neeld is viewing the Rookie List as an extension of the senior list, and picking guys with genuine chances of playing, rather than Bailey's 'pick some back-ups and nice guys' approach.
